I'll use one of these if I'm restoring a pipe and want to remove the cake back to the wood. The original British Buttner had two advantages over the cheapo copy in the original post. Cleaning a pipe
As am I, and I use isopropyl alcohol to clean my pipes. It evaporates quickly leaving no residue, and there's no temptation to drink it.- Duck

There may be a lack of photographic evidence of Paul Kruger smoking a full bent chimney. However, there was the phenomenon of Boer War pipes of that shape were carved by participants of both sides. They referred to a pipe of that shape as a Kruger.- Duck
