The Beginning Signs of Burnout. Pipe mud?

All is not lost. I've been seasoning a corn cob for a couple of years, to make a cob bowl for a Falcon. I can use the chimney for a wooden plug and threads. The rest of the chimney will be used to make briar dust for fills.

The Beginning Signs of Burnout. Pipe mud?

I have one of those Falcon chimney bowls, I smoked it twice and gave it up as a bad job. Here's a picture of it next to one of my Oom Paul's. The chamber on the Falcon is too wide, and the bowl too narrow, the result is the walls are thin, too thin for a big chamber. So, it burns hot.

    Herb Grinder and Flake/Twist

Absolutely not, no way, no how. There's no such thing as a flake that's hard to rub out. With plugs and twists, if it's hard to rub out then you need to cut it more finely. It's that simple.

How to Keep Pipe Rim from Darkening?

Pretty much that, except my Christmas pipe, last year now, was a straight grained Dublin with a broad bark rim. I like bark rims to be dark anyway, so I'm just letting it darken.

    Oom Paul Commission Recommendations

Drilling an Oom Paul is tricky enough already, and it ain't happening with a pencil shank.

    Rubbing Out Flakes.

Re: the new edited title for this thread. There wouldn't be any flakes if you washed it after each rub out.

Questions About "SilverThing" [Inner Tube] in Dunhill Pipes

I have a Barber B Line Group 4 She'll Briar Lovat which I dropped and cracked a bit out of the mortice. Now it may be a Dunhill reject, but it's still just a basket pipe. Much as I like it, it's not the sort of pipe you splash out on getting a silver band fitted. So, I tried super gluing the...

    Show us Your Pipe/Tobacco/Accessory Trays!

This is my prep kit. The chopping board is 4½" square, the little slip joint is carbon steel and kept hair popping sharp, the dish serves for drying tobacco and doubles as an ashtray, the piece of A4 paper is essential (trifolded then folded in half it forms a square slightly smaller than the...

Looking For a New Pepper Grinder.

Stainless, but good quality. Peugot invented the peppermill, they can be pricey but their basic model is cheap enough.

Opening the Draw - Drill Bit Size

My tuppence worth: If you don't have precision equipment like a metal lathe then use an old fashioned bit and brace. An electric drill is less accurate and less forgiving. You already have a guide hole, and if you increase the bore in 1mm increments it's not only safer, but you can test the draw...

    Meerschaum Tenon Question

The draw is tight as the diameter of the bore in the tenon is only 2mm. You can get that up to 2.5mm by hand turning a 3mm drill bit through it.

    Query on Samuel Gawith/Gawith Hoggarth

Comoy's pipes are owned by Cadogan Comoys Pipes - Smokers - https://cadogan-gifts.co.uk/smokers/comoys-pipes The tobacco was produced by STG, a big cigar company. You can check that on Tobacco Reviews. They may, or may not, have ceased production of the tobacco, but they have nothing to do with...

    Query on Samuel Gawith/Gawith Hoggarth

They used to distribute the pipes through their gift shop, but if you go to the main page you can no longer find the pipes. The pages are still online though, eg Dr Plumb Pipes - Smokers - https://cadogan-gifts.co.uk/smokers/dr-plumb-pipes

    Query on Samuel Gawith/Gawith Hoggarth

That would explain why the current crop of Barlings have 9mm filters. I don't know how I got the impression they were under the Cadogan umbrella. Though the definitely own the Comoy brand. Looking at their website I get the impression that they're moving out of the pipe business. Perhaps that's...
