    Water And Pipe Cleaners

Trubka - I rinse mine after every smoke. As they are only exposed to the water for 30-60 seconds, I do not notice that the briar has absorbed much if any water. My process is to run a pipe cleaner through the stem to the bowl and then to scoop the bowl to get the worst of the ash and tobacco...

    Castello 55

Michael: its weird -- I find myself trying to talk myself out of a good experience. If I admit its true, I fear the PAD path in front of me

    Castello 55

Had a chance to fire up my 55 for the first time last night with some Capstan Blue. I am officially a Castello convert! Wow! Not sure I can put to words what made this such a great smoker -- it just was. Only drawback was I over loaded the pipe, so it did not burn as well as it probably would...

2 Pipe Nomenclature Questions (Barling and Dunhill)

no help on either question, but the grain on that Barling is amazing!

    Savinelli Autograph

Very nice looking pipe. I especially like the grain on the left side. Agree with MSO - Savinelli has a good reputation and the Autograph line is higher-end. My understanding is that the 4 is the grading stamp. I believe a 4 is towards the lower end of the grading scale. However, compared to...

Problems with Fedex from Italy ??

I would suggest asking them to use DHL instead, even if you have to pay a few dollars more in shipping. I just received a pipe from italy via DHL no problem. ORder placed late in the afternoon on a Thursday, package arrived mid morning on Monday. No issues at all. My understanding of the issue...

    Somewhat Gross Pipe Question

I've always wondered how a small amount of tobacco can leave a 1/4 inch of water in the bottom of the pipe.

Madeira Wine to Accompany a Pipe

My local smoking lounge, due to stupid governemnt regulation, cannot serve hard alcohol. My go to drink there for either a pipe or cigar is ruby port. great combination.

I Fail to See the Point

weezell - I get the idea of dropping a nub in a pipe to finish it off, but why smoke the the whole cigar like that? No judgment intended, just wondering what the pipe adds to the process?

    Cigar Smoker trying something new

I also was primarily a cigar guy for the last 20 years, who smoked a pipe now and then. Switched to pipes primarily about 2 years ago. I agree with AlaskaPiper that they are two completely different beasts. You will not find a pipe tobacco that gives you the same smoking...

I Fail to See the Point

I have never stuck a nub in my pipe, but I do love to smoke a good cigar down to the very end. I personally really enjoy that last inch of a good cigar. My usual solution is a toothpick just past the cap, whcih allows me to smoke it down to the 3/8ths of an inch or so

    Castello 55

Thanks OGS and Michael for your help on the stamp. Now I just need to make the time to give it a try. Thinking Escudo Navy Flake would be a worthy choice.

James Upshall Pipes - A Discussion

Given the uniformity of the James Upshall logo and stamp, it appears that it is engraved rather than hand-stamped. I would put it in the 1982-89 time frame. Very nice looking pipe!

So the Bollito stamp was changed from BO to B14 at some point in the last few years?

What Is So Great About Castellos

I just picked up a 55 "castello" 4k from Italy. With shipping it was more than $100 less than SP has a 55 "castello" 2k listed for. Ordered it late in the afternoon on Thursday and it arrived this morning.

Interesting - I purchased the pipe from Bollito, which apparently should have a "BO" stamp and not "B".
