Unusual Dunhill pipes. Help needed understanding.

As Al says. This is what I do; put the stummel in a pipe rest, or an egg carton, shank up. Fill the shank with alcohol till the dirt dissolves. Carefully remove the tube with a pair of tweezers. Bob's your uncle.

Unusual Dunhill pipes. Help needed understanding.

It is not a stinger, but the (in)famous Dunhill inner tube . When hot from smoking your device they become very "flexible" and are inclined to break off. I tinkered quite a few from the stummel, or the mouthpiece.

    Charatan's Make Distinction

Yep, Trafalgar. Shape 71. X for saddle mouthpiece. In the seventies they were stamped 171X, or 371X depending on bowl size. Lovely pipe, great grain. The Distinction is not a lower graded grade. 1961-1965.

    Removing Cake gone wrong

As Sigmund says. For what it's worth; I make my pipe cement ( not -mud ) from fine, sieved wood ash and demineralized water. it dries rock hard. For this purpose I utilise a pipe tamper, it works perfect. A wooden dowel, correct size, works fine too. Have not yet tried to mix the ash with...
