    Mammoth?

Craig, I am “waiting” for a Tom Eltang Mammoth Calabash. But note the quotes around the word waiting. As in he does not do commissions. And his calabash pipes are very rare. I’ve personally seen one of his mammoth pieces and it was stunning. So I wait and keep my eye out. If/when one comes...

Oh Nightcap, What Happened To Thou?

+1 to Cosmic. The hoarding of Dunhill blends was less than 2 years ago. I can’t imagine any significant change to Nightcap in that short period. I am currently working through a jar of Nightcap from 2007 and it’s wonderful with only slight mellowing. But then again, I love my English blends...

One Year, Only One Brand Blender -- Which?

K&K & Co. Two of my three favorite blends come that house. So if I had only one to choose, that would be it.

    Meerschaum And Water

+1 Meers need only a wipe with paper towel right after smoking. Remember, the inner bowel will look black from the heat of the smoke, and it will stay black. But the key is to not build up cake. The black (or dark) bowel doesn't effect the smoking qualities at all.

My First Bowl of SG Full Virginia Flake

It took me a very (very) long time to understand, let alone enjoy FVF. For me I needed some time to mature (myself) and learn more about pipe tobacco, and Virginias in particular. Once the learning curve was achieved, it was game on and true love blossomed. FVF is truly a wonderful tobacco and a...

Hey Mister! Your Pipe Is Awesome!

About a year ago I started lunting around with my dogs every night. Now the neighbors all know me as the pipe guy. I get lots of, "So, what pipe are you smoking today?" I use it as an opportunity to educate people about the culture and hobby.

Another Italian Pipe Shipment Hit With Customs and Duties Charges.

Basically, the original point was that pipes (not tobacco) are starting to get noticed. This is new. That's all. Yes, I know the laws and regulations. But Italy was an oasis for a long time.

Which Pipe Material If You Had To Choose One

Briar, smoked exclusively out of the left side of the mouth, stem must be rested on the first molar, relative humidity and precisely 65%, Length 5.5 inches (no exceptions) and weight 28-38 grams. If there is any deviation from this protocol, then you can never call yourself a pipe smoker...
