    I'd say that's a good summary. To drive the point home, Samuel Gawith offers Grousemoor and Fire Dance Flake. Both contain only Virginia leaf, but are so strongly flavored that SG themselves call the blends "aromatic."

    Call me paranoid, but my lit pipes never go into the house, a pouch, or my pocket. If I need to step away mid-smoke, I either make sure it's completely out or set the pipe down on a non-flammable surface out of the wind.

    Finished my 2022 Edisto this afternoon. Looking back, it had some great flavors, but I think uncased straight red Virginia just isn’t quite sweet enough on its own for my taste. It was the ghost of the previous bowl of Gawith Virginias that really completed this smoke.

    Cake always builds quickest and easiest on the walls rather than the bottom of the chamber. One thing I do to build up cake along the bottom of the chamber is that when I'm getting toward the end of a bowl, I'll tamp the pile backward toward the draft hole. That helps protect the draft hole...
