    New Larrysson

I was surprised to see some new Larrysson pipes on offer on eBay. I picked up this nice blast for a sweet price because he made the acrylic stem from a blank instead of hand cutting it. I can't tell the difference. It's a great looking well engineered pipe. Not that that's a surprise. The...

    WDC Military Mount Bulldog

I picked this one up in bad shape. Only marks I could see were the fancy lettered "French Briar". It had an Art Nouveau look that suckered me in. And the stamp is in great shape. Turned out the stem had been super glued. By the look of it I assumed it was Bakelite. I tried the heat gun to...

Old Cased L.B. Best Make Bent Clarion

I just picked this one up. It has the Generic "French Briar" case logo. The "Best Make" stamp I usually associate with CPF. I have no idea who L.B. was. I like the look a lot. It's a big bent well pipe with a thick sexy cherry Bakelite stem. The band and leaf applique look like there was...

    Peterson Mark Twain Questions

I've picked up another Mark Twain to refurbish. Checking the hallmarks shows it to be a 1981 pipe (P). I thought I remembered the '81 pipes being numbered editions. So I checked Pipepedia and yes, they show '81 Mark Twains numbering 1-1000. But I cannot find a number on this pipe. Where should...

    1957 Parker

I just got this pipe in yesterday from an ebay auction. It's a Parker Super Briar Bark 108/F. It's one of the dated pipes with an underlined 7 designating it as a 1957 vintage. It's a very light pipe. The blast is very deep and craggy. It has a good quality ebonite fishtail stem. It measures in...

    Merchant Service Bing

I've read several times about Bing Crosby owning Merchant Service pipes. About that being the definitive Bing shape. So for the second time I think, I hunted for one. They are hard to find. I finally found one on ebay and got it at a decent price. Proportions are about the same as my Sasquatch...

    Manhattan Rescue

I like old Manhattan pipes. They are in the same category as old WDC and CPF pipes. American branded pipes that run the full spectrum of quality. So anyway, I saw this cased Manhattan on ebay. I could see it was missing a cap. I hate that. You fill the nail holes, sand the rim impression away...

New Estate Askwith from Briar Blues

I just received this nice Askwith pipe with a white Bakelite stem from Briar Blues. It's an ebay purchase. The pipe came in perfect condition and might be the cleanest pipe I've ever bought on ebay. I'm impressed (and I'm picky!) and would be happy to buy from BB again. I've had a couple...

    My first Ferndown

I bought a Ferndown Bark on ebay the other day. It arrived today and is just lightly smoked. About 15 minutes of TLC had it in almost perfect condition. It has a wide stem with a good substantial bit for clenching. What a great looking good smoking pipe!

    A couple Kaywoodie Meerschaum tomatoes

At least that's what I think the shapes are. I've had these two cased Kaywoodies for years. The ambera stem pipe is probably a 30s pipe. The short saddle bit stem is nylon. Probably a 50s pipe.

Parker Super BriarBark - What's the Shape?

Got another nice older blasted Parker. I really like it! It's 6.5" long with an oval shank. Initially I thought it was a Liverpool. But after doing a search I think it's just a long shank billiard. Or maybe a long stem Canadian. Or maybe it defies categorization. But it's a great looking nice...

    I've been buying some Parkers

I've discovered an interest in older Parkers. The briar quality is nice and the stems are good. The earlier Parkers have patent numbers and date codes. They stopped stamping the patent number about the same time Dunhill did and dropped the date code altogether. First up is a Super BriarBark...

    Dunhill Shell 142

The Dunhill Shell 142 Group 4 from 1955. The blast is really sharp and craggy. A classic.

    Kaywoodie Rock Ambera 7636

I did a trade with a friend for this pipe. He thought I was better suited to tackle making it smokeable. It was filthy and grimy. The stem was oxidized dark orange and a chunk of the bit was missing. It ain't perfect, but I think it looks pretty good and smokes fine. It's a 7636 pipe. It's...

    Ropp Montagnarde - LVC

I was watching "Death Rides a Horse" (1967) and Lee Van Cleef pulls out an old timey looking bent briar. He smokes it all through the movie. It looked like something I had seen from Butz-Choquin. I had thought it had an arylic stem that looked like horn. But a few days later on ebay I see a...

My LVC (Lee Van Cleef) Meerschaum

I decided a few months ago I wanted an LVC meerschaum. People have been snatching up bent billiard LVCs on ebay for crazy prices. I came across this bent apple and it actually looked better to me. No competition at all on this one. It was dull and dirty. It arrived and I set it on the bench to...

    WDC Briar Cutty

I've never seen one like it and had to have it. Looks like French Briar with fairly straight grain. The Stem looks like a replacement. But it's cherry Bakelite so it's close to the correct period in appearance. And I like Bakelite. And it has a case! Smokes nice too.

    Antique Figural Meerschaum

I bought this pipe with the intention of cleaning it up and flipping it. It was dirty and the stem had been taped on. It looked rough but cleaned up these pipes are popular. Then I got the pipe. I cleaned it with damp rags and Q-tips. Got the tape goo off and polished the band. The stem looks...

    Grand Sport Deluxe Virgin Bruyere

I was attracted to this pipe because it reminded me of a Kaywoodie 83B and also certain GBD shapes. I could see that the stamps are sharp so I put in the minimum bid. Of course I won it. The finish was originally dark. But it had faded enough that I could see multiple small fills. I counted 6...

    CPF Cased Pre-colored Nosewarmer

At 4.25" long it's a shorty. This probably started out as an oxblood stained pipe that has faded from smoking. It's now a nice sunset orange. The stem has some interior crazing. It's probably amberoid. But it has no chip or tooth wear. It's a nice smoking pipe.
