No, the thing is finding something that doesn’t collect in the crevices of sandblasted and rusticated pipes. I’ve spent way too much time trying to clean out the wrong wax out with a toothpick.
RCH was my introduction to the hobby. I had no idea that pipes were collectible before a tobacconist handed me the a new book called The Ultimate Pipe Book that had just arrived. I had a letter out to Tom Dunn of the Pipe Smokers Ephemeris a few days later.
I’ve enjoyed collecting tampers about as long as I’ve collected pipes. I’ve got a few solid collections that I’ve spent way too much money on but I still buy more.

I’ve gotten as far as telling mrslax that all the pipes have a sleeve and box and that these shelves have the valuable tobacco. I’m sure it went in one ear and out the other.
I’m surprised we can still mail order tobacco and that big tobacco didn’t go after tax parity with RYO “pipe tobacco” long ago. The only thing that went away fast were the commercial high speed rollers that smoke shops had for a short time.
I don’t know if he was technically a lobbyists but Paul Creasy who was in charge of the Richmond operation for Altadis spent a lot of time lobby in Washington.
He was a guest a few times on Kiss My Ash Radio Podcast years ago. They were a great listen. Loved the catalogs and going into his shops. Cut rate cigars next to pots, pans and aftershave.
