US Customs and FDA are Attacking Pipe Smokers

It's actually not an overreach per se. It is a customs tax issue and they are flagging pipes over a certain dollar amount for customs tax. I have only had the issue with pipes from Italy this year. But it happened twice and I owed an extra $450 total in fees/tax. I thought it was a FedEx issue...

US Customs and FDA are Attacking Pipe Smokers

Please search for my recent posts on this topic. I have my last two orders from italy stopped by customs and additional fines/taxes added before release. It appears to be isolated to orders from Italy for some reason. We discuss this further in the prior posts, I just don't have time to search...

    Mylar And The Cellar

I have personal experience up to 2 years with no concerns and great aging in the tobacco. And I have personally seen >5-7 years aged tobacco in Mylar ziplocks at Pipe shows being opened with perfectly aged and moist tobacco. So I literally put my money and trust in to the system. Over the next...

    Ye Old Analoge Thread

I Love my Midori (Traveler’s) notebook. I have a standard size and a mini. I use them daily for journaling and also as a backup log for pipe and tobacco and cigar inventory. Paired with my Claudio Albieri 2-Pipe Case, it is a great travel set.

    Mylar And The Cellar

But! I actually dislike storing tobacco with Mylar because it is cumbersome, difficult to stack, pain to track, and it takes a lot of time to do it right. I much much much prefer to store my tobacco in original tins. I have never had a a problem with this method and it is by far the easiest...

    Mylar And The Cellar

You can get Mylar ziplock pouches. Shown here are some samples of HU tobacco sent to me a long time ago in Mylar ziplock pouches. The tobacco stays very fresh for months/years. I like these VERY MUCH. I need to get some. You can see how much lighter they are compared to glass mason jars in the...

    Mylar And The Cellar

Sometimes I seal the tobacco in seal-a-meal or Food Saver bags first and then put in Mylar bags. Other times I just do Mylar alone, like with the Salty Dogs shown.

    Mylar And The Cellar

I spent the morning finishing up a few tobacco projects. Mainly putting away blends that were not sealed in tins. I also got around to sealing the PH Curly Blocks in Mylar bags. Since the new site makes posting pictures soooooooo easy, I thought it would helpful to show the process. I know that...
