What Are You Listening To? - October 2025

Started listening to this last night and am finishing it this morning. A very talented modern composer.

    Show us your Brebbia’s!

While I've had a few Brebbia pipes in the past, this is the one I currently have. It's stamped MPB Golden Gnome Super, which is one of their earlier pipes. MPB stands for Manifattura Pipe Brebbia. It's a great stocky little billiard that I smoke quite often.

    What are you waiting for?!

I'm waiting for the weather to cool down! My air conditioner is acting up and it's bugging me.

Any Expirience With The IM Corona Double Lighter ? Are They Suitable For Pipes?

I have a lighter like that made by Corona, but branded Savinelli. It shoots the soft flame out sideways and has worked flawlessly since I bought it over 30 years ago. The best lighter I've ever owned. (The gold plating is wearing off, but the brass underneath makes it less noticeable.) I don't...

International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Arrr, we be needen more pirates for sure matey! Global warming can be linked to the decline in pirates as shown in this chart provided by the FSM and his prophet Bobby. Take heed you scurvy land lubbers, and recruit some more pirates... save the planet for plundering! (and rum drinking with...

What Are You Listening To? - September, 2025

I forgot I even had this album. It's hard to believe that this is the same composer that wrote the string quartet #8, which is quite wild at times, basically classical headbanger music. This is fun and almost romantic!

    Unique Pipes

I know I've posted this pipe here before, but for you newer guys here it is again. A meerschaum Monstrosity Zombie pipe by Olie Sylvester, part of his bloody knuckles series . A wee beastie to be sure and always gets brought out for Halloween.

    What are You Reading Now?

Yep. Years ago when I realized that it was written by a young woman I felt that I had to read it at some point. Seemed unusual for that type of story to be written in that time period by a young woman. I must be some kind of feminist! Egads!

    What are You Reading Now?

Original 1818 version of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. It's probably closer to Mel Brooks version of it, no? 😁

What Are You Listening To? - September, 2025

Ah yes, PDQ Bach. He and Victor Borge are among my favorites. Classical needs some comic relief from time to time.

What Are You Listening To? - September, 2025

Classical music with a sense of humor. This piece written I guess for 4 vacuums and 4 shot guns. Words fail me!

Mystery Pipe, Has a Name but What Else Can Be Found?

It's only $21.99 plus shipping, and I would buy it if it wasn't for the goofy looking button on the stem. I don't trust that, whatever it is... 🤨

Mystery Pipe, Has a Name but What Else Can Be Found?

I looked at cherry wood pipes and the grain always seems to be circular as in a tree branch. This looks like a cross grain of some type, but now that you mention it, it looks a little more like maple to me rather than briar. I don't know.

Mystery Pipe, Has a Name but What Else Can Be Found?

Thanks for the info. Yeah, there seems to be a lot of obscure pipes roaming around out there, and this seems to be one of the weirder ones. I've never seen a button on the stem like that one. Probably an insert of asbestos to add flavor or to remove harmful tars, no? 😝

Mystery Pipe, Has a Name but What Else Can Be Found?

This is not my pipe or my pictures. I found this on eBay and have never seen a pipe like this. Stamped "BUX, Cherry Cured, England". Looks to me more like briar and not cherrywood, so I don't know what cherry cured means, also bowl and stem look to be made separately, and the end of the stem...

What Are You Listening To? - August, 2025

I came across this interesting interpretation of Handel's Music for Fireworks played on baroque instruments. Quite a rousing piece with a lot of wind instruments and horns.

Ok, Alright Already! I Finally Got a Pipe by Lee.

Ok, on close examination with a magnifier I can see that the stars are not inlaid but are stamped. I'll just have to be careful when cleaning it up, and I'll post a pic of the results. Thanks for all the advice and info guys.
