    Id clean this crusty ash once the bowl is done. Just take a paper towel or rag and wipe the bowl out. Eventually you will build a nice hard cake rather than one made of half burnt crap. Dont crud up you pipe. Im not sure what your after smoke routine is.

    I used to fiddle with things like that more than I do now. Also I smoke smaller bowls and I smoke indoors. There isnt an ash tray on my computer desk...so I dont bother.

    It doesnt keep it from lighting unless you have a huge bowl and then not only. Are you tamping as you go. If you dont feed the fire you cant keep it smoking.

    Ive had some blue cap Vauen filters like in the photo. I really didnt care for them. I think they are the older version and the new version is much less restrictive. I found the blue cap filers to be overfilled and made for an annoying draw.

    Neither...they are really too different to compare. On a desert island one would not replace the other but either would be great. Both would be better :)

    Funny thing is that 9mm filters are not even 9mm Even the pipe slot for the filter is around 8.4 mm and the filter has to be smaller.
