Do you expect the same quality from group-order pipes ?
Well, that sucks! They should be as good or better since they can set up and them in assembly line fashion...even if handmade. In theory that should cut their time. If they excused errors its just becuase they decided they were "Good enough" and alread sold (and late). Id be shopping... -

Some people believe in throwing everything away. I dont like waste. Its why Im not broke. I tend to smoke smaller bowls. My first use is for lighter blends, the second use for heavy or lat blends. Afer the first use they are only slightly discolored.- Sigmund

It is important to make sure the OD is not too tight. It is a lot more surface area than an unfiltered pipe. My guess is it broke from trying to grip the long wooden portion too tightly and putting pressure on the bowl I use the pencil lead trick to keep them not too tight. If that wont work...- Sigmund

I typically remove them. Ive never had damage or tightening due to them The sleve was probably too tight Anyway I do so they will dry. I use them twice most the time That is a long way from the filter to be caused by it. It was probably just weak. Sucks though- Sigmund

I’ve picked up my guitars after a long time away from them. In my 20s I studied jazz tho I wasnt that advanced. Ive just finished leveling the frets and setting it up nicely. That was an adventure I have been playing daily trying to remember bits and pieces.- Sigmund

Have I Damaged My Pipe In My Early Attempts At Pipe Smoking?
cant really gauge how deep it is. Just smoke it. Wipe it out after every smoke with a paper towel Might have been a bubbled up bowl coating...hard to say but thats wood. If the bowl is getting hot on your hands to the touch give it a rest and let it cool warm is fine but if it is uncomfortable...- Sigmund
