    Need a Good Shag Suggestion

Apparently our minds work along the same lines. You just got to this thread 15 minutes quicker than me.😆 However, in response to the OP’s query, I’ve been known to smoke Stokkebye Norwegian Shag in a small bowl briar from time to time. I’ve never been a cigarette smoker, but an old...

    Bowl coating, wet tobacco

Not telling anybody else their business, but here is what works for me— If the bowl is pre-carbonized, I go straight to the gradual fill/gradual smoke method over the course of the first 4-5 bowls (1/3-1/2-2/3-Full). Most factory carbons are not much more than water glass and carbon anyway, and...

    I Remember When..........

Every bit of footwear I own is some sort of animal skin or hide. Some polished, (2nd from left, band promo photo), …and some not. I have not owned a pair of sneakers in over 20 years. The closest I come is leather Timberland hikers. 90% of the time, it’s western boots for me, whether they be...

    I Remember When..........

I remember when dressing for travel was still the norm.

    Taking My Leave

I’m brand spanking new here and have never really interacted with you. However, I have read through this entire thread, and it’s patently obvious that you have made a significant positive impact on the lives of many of your fellow men. When all is said and done, a man can possess no greater...

So... What OTHER Hobbies Occupy Your Time?

So, is this you, doing your best Brando while on the hunt?😁

So... What OTHER Hobbies Occupy Your Time?

Nice. I generally prefer open back for most string instruments except bass. With bass I prefer ported, folded or sealed to keep the low end a little tighter.

So... What OTHER Hobbies Occupy Your Time?

Very nice looking cab! What did you choose for the driver? Sealed, ported, or open-back? Looks like you’re running that rig with a Quilter amp of some sort? I don’t build my own cabs, but I’ve been gigging and doing studio work on the side for a looong time, and have amassed a ton of gear over...

    Canted Bowls ?

Nice looking Stanwell you have there. Glad to see you resolved the issue. I am also partial to Dublin, Cutty, Egg and Zulu shapes.

Inveterate pipe smoker, new to this peanut gallery…

My first wife having been from Starkville, and me being an MSU graduate, I’m familiar with much of the state north of Jackson as well! 👍

    Famous Historical Pipe Smokers

The man who chose the ground for the Union forces at Gettysburg, General John Buford Jr. was a well-known pipe smoker in his time.

Inveterate pipe smoker, new to this peanut gallery…

Many thanks for the warm welcome, folks! A few selected responses to some of your questions and comments— @jerry and @abecox , I also play several instruments, some with vary degrees of proficiency, other I play just well enough to be dangerous. I probably play guitar (acoustic and electric)...

    What's your favorite painting?

There is some mighty good stuff already posted in this thread. Myself, I’m a big fan of American Regionalism and its offshoots. Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World probably tops my list. It has fascinated me since childhood, and my wife gave me a very large framed print of it for my birthday one...

    Amphora

Same experience here. I discovered them completely by accident many years ago when I bought an estate odd lot. Now, it’s one of the brands that I actively seek out. They’re not overly fancy or particularly beautiful, but in my experience they generally tend toward a nice smoking experience.

    Why are estate pipes ok?

I concur with your approach, and great job on resurrecting that Ascorti! For those on this thread who are averse to estate pipes for one reason or another, I can respect that too, and I don’t look down on any such preference. In my view, that just leaves more opportunities for those like myself.

    Why are estate pipes ok?

Approximately 60% of the pipes I own are estate pieces. They provided a reasonable gateway to understanding the ins and outs of pipe restoration and maintenance for me. Most of the ones I have were refurbished by myself. I’m also a lover of old things from before my time, cursed/blessed with an...
