Ropp Etudiant vs. Rossi vs. ...?
I am a super big fan of the Ropp Etudiant. The key with these pipes is, they are very old wood. Old stummels from Chapius / Comoy so they are very dry and seasoned. These are smaller pipes, which I adore as I am usually smoking VA flake. -

I think early pipes, at least the ones I have are only marked London Castle. Maybe that is a way to date them?- donjgiles

Sutliff Cringle Flake 2020
I am smoking a bowl now. I received a delivery from BnB, delivered on a Sunday! One tin lost it seal and was open so I dove right in. My goodness, this is good!!! Sweet, rich, slow burning, cool smoking Va/Per deliciousness. :)- donjgiles

Third bowl in a bent, blasted Ropp Etudiant. I have not dried out any of the bowls, first two were rubbed out to ribbons and this last bowl was cube cut with scissors. Same intense flavor as the first, lots of smoke, well behaved, no bite from any of these. I may try to dry it some next time and...- donjgiles

I was using one like this... These are small pipes, but it lasted over an hour. I smoke very slow and I tend to put the pipe down and not pick it up for an hour or so later. The tall Dublin-ish bowl on this pipe really intensified the flavors. For $38.00 you cannot lose.- donjgiles

I have had 2 bowls in 2 different pipes. The first bowl was in a Ropp Etudiant that was extremely flavorful, my initial reaction was PS Luxury Navy Flake on steroids, with higher quality leaf. Yes, it is a beautiful blend! I am not much of a Latakia guy, but Fillmore really trips my trigger. I have been enjoying an 8 oz tin from the initial release, it is very fruity and smoky. The Lat is noticeable but maybe only in the fullness of taste. YUM- donjgiles

Your research is correct. It is pre-war (II) Any Comoy pipe from this time will be a fantastic smoker and will also look very beautiful. Comoy was one of the best at cutting a bowl and they usually have amazing grain. Great score! :) -
