Three Nuns - No Perique - Why Not Add It

Perique is quite expensive. Would make the profit margins much smaller - especially considering the large amount of Perique that's supposed to go into a "real" 3 Nuns. These days it's all about buying the rights to a well known "old school" name, and producing it cheaply, riding the viral...

    Ahhh......Great Start To The Weekend!

Hey Matt, when you open the Capstan or the 3 Nuns make sure to let me know how they are - I've been dying to hear more about them ;-)

Progress On Two Estates I Acquired While Antiqing.

I'm just a sucker for high-contrast stains and the graining in those two pipes just begs to be put on show :-) But as everything, my personal opinion ;-)

Progress On Two Estates I Acquired While Antiqing.

Good job. They look a bit faded, maybe think about staining them before you polish them up :-)

Trying Something Different - Prepping Pipe For Later

Yes, me too! I often prepare some pipes in advance that I plan to smoke later when it might be inconvenient to do the full preparation ritual. These pipe corks have been by far my favorite DIY accessory to enable this practice: I've posted about them earlier ("Look what my hubby made for me").

County in Florida Makes Tobacco Use Illegal

Also tons of vegetables, like Eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, or deserts with the physalis fruit. So better NOT eat for a week before you go to a screening .... While we are at it, we should definitely put a fine on breathing air, after all whenever you exhale you produce CO2, which is...

McClelland Scottish Woods and Grey Havens

I've opened a 2001 tin of Grey Havens last weekend and have been smoking the weed over the past few days. What can I say? I'd like to like it ... being a 12 year old Virginia blend and all, but really ... I don't care for it. The main word I'd use to describe the blend is bland (no pun...

    Virginia/Lat blends

W/O Larsen Selected Blend No. 20 has a really nice Virginia sweetness, with enough Latakia to make it full and savoury. MacBaren Plum Cake is NOT an aromatic, but also a nice smokey Virginia blend. I enjoy both quite often these days (it's not quite fall so I can't go to the full Latakia laden...

What Do You Think About This French Anti-Smoking Ad?

If smoking a cigarette is illustrated as oral rape, smoking a pipe can only be illustrated as wedding night fellatio ...

4 years down the road :-) Mission accomplished? How do the figures look? Do we have a monthly increase? Or are the newest member numbers only due to bad movies in the summer ....

    Smooth Verses Rusticated

I don't fully agree. Rustication is done to pipes that would be perfectly fine as smooths. Certain rustication techniques are aesthetically pleasing and feel really good to the touch. For example Castello sea rock pipes. Also, what is sandblasting other than a fancy rustication method? Would you...

    Keeping the Bowl Lit

Practice, practice, practice. Also, if you have a lot of different pipes they will smoke differently and you might need to learn a new rhythm for each pipe. Overall you want to: - have the tobacco dried out a bit (should neither feel wet nor dry to the touch, be springy, not crumble when...

What Pipe Would You Buy Again?

I'm always keeping my eyes open for another Stanwell Naval Series Admiral Grade, either shape #30 or #62. I own one that I bought way back and it's my favourite, favourite, favourite pipe. The stain has a nice warm color that plays in perfect harmony with the banding. The stunning angel hair...
