I Hate Breaking in a New Pipe

Didn’t Jim Benjamin (Rick Newcombes repair guy from years ago) say in an interview it took him something like 40 years to break in a particular Barling. I would give up on a pipe after about a year if it doesn’t break in.

    Solani Aged Burley Flake

Jar time did wonders for my tin from 2012. I’m enjoying a bowl now and the first part of the bowl was sweet molasses, then went flat. I think I was overpuffing. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and now it’s not as sweet but the flavors have come back.

    Solani Aged Burley Flake

It’s growing on me. I’m primarily a Va/VaPer smoker, but I’m starting to really like it. My last order I had a more Burley blends than Virginias.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2020?***

I decided to smoke another bowl of the 2006 Haddo’s but it didn’t have that magic from yesterday. So I packed a bowl of Solani Aged Burley Flake. I opened the tin a few weeks ago and it was muted. Jarred and came back to it today. What a difference. Much better. Then I went back to the bowl of...

A Pipe Holds So Many Memories...

That’s one of the things that drew me to pipes. The guy that taught me how to smoke told me that pipes hold a lifetime of memories. I have pipes in my collection that I smoked throughout the last 20+ years. When I smoke them I think about all the good times and great bowls they provided. I still...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2020?***

Enjoyed two enjoyable bowls of 2006 GL Pease Haddo’s Delight. This used to be a daily smoke for me a few years ago. Not sure why I stopped smoking it because I always enjoy it. This bowl was outstanding. I decided to order a few tins to add to my cellar. I have a few tins already but I think I...

    IM Corona Old Boy Issues

I have the same issue with one of mine. After 20 years of use my lighter is in rough shape. Thanks for posting this.

    Comoy’s Lighter

Why do I read these threads. I have been curious about these since people first started talking about them a few years ago. I really don’t care about the ping or the DuPont name. I just like the classic design. Ordered ?

    Old German Clay Pipes

I prefer the straight pipes. The few bents I have aren’t drilled exactly center ( but they still smoke well). In my experience, the ones with the vulcanite stems are very low quality vulcanite and they bother my lip. I think the stem coating is usually in a different color. But check with...

    Old German Clay Pipes

They smoke well. You just need to pay a little more attention to the pipe while you smoke. In my experience they take a few bowls to break in. All of mine started out a little gritty. Also, he sells them with the coated mouthpiece. I prefer them because I don’t like the feeling of clay. Markus...

2014 Dunhill Elizabethan. Didn’t like it then, but I could see myself liking it now. Still nipped me slightly, but as long as I puffed slow the flavors shined. I have a few tins from back then in my cellar and figured if I really loved it I would pick up a few more. Going to smoke a few more...

Sorry about that. Didn’t realize they weren’t talking about LJP.

    L.J. Peretti 150th Flake

The store is on the corner of Boston Common at 2 1/2 Park Square. It’s a great old-school store.

Yellow Acrylic Stemmed Castello Sea Rock?

I am no Castello expert, but that looks like a Freehand-style stem blank. I don’t recall seeing a stem like that (the flare from the tenon, then the bulb). I think that shape usually has a stick bit style stem.
