Cobs. Hmm. Youse guys ever try a good meer/gourd/calabash? Of course, it will cost more than a dozen cobs!

    Hearth and Home- Opus Magnum

Thank you Russ for saying that. On planet Earth water is free. I hate paying dearly for my precious pipe tobacco only then to have to dry it out for two hours to remove all the excess moisture.

Peterson System Standard Pipe: 302 vs 303

I've smoked System pipes for over 40 years and prefer the 309 myself in black ebony and they are among my favorite designs. I haven't come across any quality issues myself yet, and have found no issues or problems with gurgle or a wet mess in the stem. I clean it like any other pipe and in...

    Yes, we probably are.

Making my own Cavnedish. Need some advices

Then you don't need the pressure cooker at all. Every person who bakes a tin of their favorite tobacco in his/her oven is automatically making Cavendish. So . . . . . just for shits and giggles, I went to the web to see what it had to say, and the first site I found said that it is the steaming...

    What Is Your Personal Motto?

Here is another good motto: The difference between a Wise Man and a Fool is the Wise Man knows more than he tells whereas the Fool tells more than he knows! :puffy:

Making my own Cavnedish. Need some advices

Sure. It will reach the same temp, eventually. As to the steam, yes, if the tobacco contains enough water to develop enough steam pressure. But what if the tobacco is naturally rather dry? As to the temp vs. pressure thing, you have it backwards I'm afraid. The pressure is what drives the...

    What Is Your Personal Motto?

Sure. Just as much as the quote from Davy Crockett from the OP! But if you really want a motto: "Not to understand a man's purpose does not make HIM confused!

    What Is Your Personal Motto?

    That was stupid. :puffy:

Making my own Cavnedish. Need some advices

Glad you asked, JP, I was going to let this one pass, but wondered the same thing myself. For one thing, your tobacco is already under nearly 15 psi pressure just sitting on your kitchen table! If you seal it in a jar INSIDE the pressure cooker, then the only additional pressure the tobacco...

I Really Enjoyed The New Ghostbuster Movie

Well, that was a bit too honest for me. I would welcome a sequel if it was up to the caliber of the first two films, but I see none of the charisma or chemistry (or talent) of the original actors. All I see is a lot of updated special effects, good as they might be to carry the film, but...

    C&D Black Frigate.

BF is a nice, rich, earthy tobacco that I enjoy; I have several tins of it. But there are 2000 other tobaccos out there and maybe a hundred I would put into the same class of good, rich, deep flavor and quality! Then there are those who claim that C&D makes nothing but crap. But I'm more...

I Really Enjoyed The New Ghostbuster Movie

Not to belabor the Star Wars side thread but, Episode Four was chosen as the first movie because it made the most sense as a stand-alone movie to test its marketability and establish the franchise for the others to follow. Episodes 1-3 suffered the lack of quality acting and chemistry of the...

Making my own Cavnedish. Need some advices

Also, by hanging to dry, this allows the essential juices of the tobacco to drain down out of the stem and veins into the leaf. So long as there is still juice in them, the leaf will not properly dry. Once dried, then you can remove the stems and larger veins to process.

    Boxes of Tobacco

Undoubtedly, a boxed quantity may remain in good condition for a substantial length of time in its original bag but only due to its volume. The outer parts will noticeably lose quality first and whatever the loses, they will be much greater than if properly jarred.

    What Is Your Personal Motto?

The Happiest People Don't Have The Best Of Everything - They Just Make The Best Of Everything They Have. So Dick Clark finally dies on the year we're not supposed to have a New Year's Eve. Well played Mayans........., well played. A Nation of Sheep Breeds a Government of Wolves! “Capitalism and...

Sutliff - Find Your Perfect Blend Computer Quiz

Actually, the questions are not silly at all, and unless the entire thing is a rube, the questions are based on sophisticated modeling of many people's psychological and perceptual leanings. The quiz gave me a tobacco I have already bought and when I get around to trying it, we will see. Also...

I Really Enjoyed The New Ghostbuster Movie

I don't know why everyone is so down on episodes 1-3, I liked them a lot. In some ways they are better than the three original and my least favorite is Return of the Jedi 6 with those little Muppet characters. But even that is good. But of 1 thru 3, I liked 1 and 3 a lot and thought 2 dragged...
