You Paid How Much For That Pipe?

In less than ten years, it will be at the bottom of a dumpster.

    Weeds and Seeds !!

As a totally irrelevant aside, tomatoes have nicotine in them as well (calling the FDA! ;^) and time was a long time ago that folks thought them a poisonous plant! As to growing tobacco, I wonder if cross-pollination is ever a problem?

Cater Hall with a Dash of 1Q and BCA... Wow!

Lawdawg, you and others here are making my point I've been talking about on another thread--- whatever disappears or remains of pipe tobaccos, there are endless great possibilities out there with cheap and readily available stuff that we shall never discover all the combinations of, which is...

    Tobacco of the Month: Aromatics

Overall, I'm really not that impressed with BRM and wouldn't buy it again. To me, Lane's Dark Red is just as good or better (the one Lane I've truly enjoyed!), and while I've bought both mainly as blending agents, of the two, I can see myself smoking the Dark Red on its own more often than the...

    RIP Gene Wilder

Another meteoric Hollywood talent lost now to the ages, to be replaced by the generally mediocre pap of the modern actor heavily embellished with digital CGI to make you forget about the lousy acting. *sigh* Thankfully, Gene is forever preserved for us in mylar.

    Best Of The Rest

I've bought a few BotR's and all are OK, my first one is really good! In fact I'm about to smoke some right now. Wish I knew what it was. I originally thought it would be a bit more of a hackneyed mixture with more variety in it but I cannot complain.

    Mac Baren Lowering Prices

I used to love Mac Barens but they priced themselves out of the competition. Found many other good things as a result and no need to go back to them.

What is your (current) favorite pipe shape?

The CALABASH, man! Not one of those namby pamby imitation ones made out of wood, but the REAL THING made from a genuine Calabash Gourd! With a big frickin' honking giant meerschaum bowl.

What's Your Favorite Tamper? Not The Prettiest, But The One Most Used, 8deco?

My finger. First I use a spent matchstick to remove the ash, then a finger is great to feel around and break the tobacco away from the walls and move around, so that it all burns evenly.

    Tobacco of the Month: Aromatics

I have just a little bit of Blood Red Moon left over from when everyone was raving about it being an above-the-shoulders, quality aromatic. The cherry taste is OK, I've had better, but I find the overall smoking experience no better than a lot of the Sutliff aromatics that many people rail...

    Tobacco of the Month: Aromatics

That's great, Cosmic (I love that moniker BTW), no harm here. Me, I've learned from sampling many aros that in making my own, I start with a great base of complex, quality tobaccos, then add in just enough flavoring so that as you smoke it, the flavor pokes through just here and there not...

    Tobacco of the Month: Aromatics

I have not tried all the Sutliffs but have found a few I like well enough to keep some on hand for when I want that kind of smoke. Lighter smokes for sure, and you smoke it mainly for the topping than the tobacco itself. There are different kinds of aros, and to me, I tend to call aros aros...

    Tobacco of the Month: Aromatics

Oh, I dunno, Cosmic, I smoked an aromatic last night and it had plenty of flavor. I stop short of smoking things like 1-Q, BCA, 5100 and the like as utterly tasteless, but I smoke the full range from very strong tobaccos to any aromatic I find enjoyable. And some are very enjoyable. I am a...

Favorite Aromatic Blends for the Fall Season?

I'm a very bad consumer SB and a very tough sell. I just don't buy the marketing hype that I need special tobaccos for early morning, afternoons, at certain locations, for rainy days, various holidays, or late at night. That is far too limiting! If I buy some Christmas Cheer, it will be...

    Traveling with flake tobacco

You folks still talking about this? I guess if I traveled with flake, I might either pre-prep it in advance and just stuff it in the bowl, stick a few flakes already prepped and ready to smoke in an empty pill bottle for multiple bowls, or leave the flakes natural in the same bottle and prep...

Are There Righty and Lefty Pipes?

I have a very good gourd calabash that is not symmetrical at all. The gourd has a curve to it. Actually pretty cool.

Favorite Aromatic Blends for the Fall Season?

Point well taken and I do a little smoking outdoors, but most of the time, indoors, where the temperature is always the same and when I smoke outdoors, it is not too different from indoors.

If you could smoke only 1 blend in your bowl . . .

My own Virginia-based blend. It's probably a VaPer, but with more flavor than any shelf version I've tried, but with a tiny touch of aromatic as well. Took me 8 years to make it. But if it has to be a store brand, right now I might have to say Coniston Cut Plug, I am rather smitten with that...

Favorite Aromatic Blends for the Fall Season?

Sorry, I do not believe in seasonal blends. Good tobacco is always good, period.

    The big puff

Coyote makes a very good description for BCA. To me, this is a blender and not something you smoke by itself. If still not clear, moisture content is the physical percentage of water make-up in a tobacco by weight. Humidity or RH is percentage of water vapor pressure within an atmosphere...
