***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

FVF Burnt Ends in a Wiley. Finishing a Banana Daiquiri made with both light and dark rum. The dark rum gives it a richer flavor.

Here are two Old Timers. A Schrade 150T Deer Slayer and a 1946 Dunhill Shell. Both working just fine thank you. Exotique is the weed of choice.

Pipe Force II in a Viprati. I've had this blend awhile. A friend won one of the bricks at the Chicago show. Jim's review reminded me that I had some of that brick jarred up. Red Breast 12 Year on the side.

Thank you. He was a fellow piper who owned several tobacco shops here in Denver in the 70's and early 80's I believe. Some health issues unrelated to smoking caught up with him in the past year. I hope he's puffing on a perfect Dunhill in the great smoking lounge in the sky, where every brand...

Geometrie in a Wiley with coffee on the side. Heading to a friend's memorial service in a bit. Not a fun Friday.

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Just when I said "who NEEDS another knife", I order another knife. Knife Works had the Civivi M2 Backup for $40. Can't beat that with a stick. For that money it's a knife I'll throw in a pack as a, well, backup. D2 blade in a stout .16 thickness, G10 grips and a Kydex sheath. What's not to like ?

I missed fixed blade Friday, so I'm either late or early for the next one. This is the Spyderco K294 Mule. I put some olive canvas micarta scales on it and can't wait to get it in the field this summer camping and fishing, then hunting in the fall. Pipe is a Ferndown lovat with Samarra 20th...

Well honestly, who NEEDS another knife ? :ROFLMAO: Juha's blades are interesting because the spine is 50HRC, but he hardens the edge to 63HRC.

Not custom, but affordable puukko from Juha Perttula. Almost forgot I owned the thing till someone said puukko. Pipe is a Philip Trypis egg with Cobblestone Kentucky Plug. Old Grand-Dad Bonded with a trio of Luxardo cherries on the rocks. God I love Fridays !

My PM2 in CruWear and Micarta, fans know it as the CruCarta. I hesitated buying a PM2 thinking it a bit big for EDC, but it rides fine. So fine that I bought another in S90V. The pipe is a Poul Hansen pot, currently filled with Old Gowrie.

Peterson Irish Cask in a Pete. Heading off to a friend's house for dinner, then an evening of Pitch.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2024?***

Yorktown in a Wiley. Cracked this fresh (2/24) tin Saturday and it had no flavor. Today it seems like it's starting to wake up, but I can already tell that a couple three years age would be helpful in smoothing it out some.

    Smoking, Grilling, and BBQ

I mostly use Costco for brisket because they are cheaper than almost anyone. They sell Prime for $3.50-4.00/lb. for packers. Since COVID the supply of Prime has been spotty. I spent big bucks on a Snake River Farms and then promptly overcooked it when I used the wrong probes in my thermometer...

    Smoking, Grilling, and BBQ

I probably have 100 briskets under my belt now, but wouldn't dare to use the word pitmaster. Still learning with every one I put on the pit. If you follow the basic rules as outlined by Aaron Franklin and others, you will produce a damn good brisket. It's that last 5% of knowledge that those...
