Why I haven\'t been posting much.

Good to hear that you're on the mend. What a bummer of a thing to have to go thru. I hope that this quickly resolves for you.

    Your thoughts on churchwardens?

I enjoy watching other people smoke a Churchwarden Pipe, but they are not for me. I have Pipes that are certainly as long as any Churchwarden and they get smoked infrequently, as I find I cannot smoke them and do much of anything else. Just the same, if I ever acquire another Clay Pipe, it...

Tenon Too Slack / Tenon Too Tight

I use pencil graphite and Beeswax for these respective problems, with good result. The problem of tenon fit is a big one with Meerschaums, as the Block doesn't have the shear strength of Briar, and oddly enough the more the Pipe is smoked, the more brittle the Block can get.

    Time to eat some crow

Don't feel bad... This has happened to me as well with other blends. Just as our Pipes and blends evolve with time, so do we in our preferences.

September 2010 - What are you smoking?

Thanks lordnoble. This Pipe is really a bit of a mystery. I purchased it from a guy in Australia, who had purchased it in an antique store in Germany years ago. The origin is thought to be from GUSTAV RINCKE of HAMBURG. Ben Rapaport has this name in his International Academy of the Pipe...

    What happened to Smokingpipes.com

Thanks Ted. I appreciate the effort you guys put into providing a quality site for us all. It's really a bummer that anyone would take a cheap shot like this DDoS attack..., which I'm glad you guys know what it is, because I don't. Yes, I'm a tech-primitive.

    Wnat to try a Meerschaum

Yes Juni, the VHS is outdated and likely out of stock. It's a 20 minute color film that had been sent to B&Ms, for product education as a sales assist. It features a very young Beth & Sam Simet, who are SMS, and a very young Sadik Yanik - who, even at the age of 14 was celebrated as an...

    Wnat to try a Meerschaum

You're welcome Bubbadreier. These are links to Sellers that I've had good experience with and they serve to help Meerschaum neophytes to gain perspective of what is available in quality Pipes. In the international Meerschaum trades, 'bargains' are generally too good to be genuine. I have...

    Wnat to try a Meerschaum

Sinan provides a wide range of Pipes that also use the IMP style bit-to-shank connector, as Baki uses as well. Personal preference dictates the meaning of 'best' to the Buyer. The sources I've included in the article are all reputable. A source for IMP that I've used is...

    Wnat to try a Meerschaum

I'm not an expert on Meerschaums, but for years have considered myself a serious student of these Pipes. Fr. Ron, have you read the article on the Meerschaum Experience? What is it that you expect from a Pipe and what is the price you are willing to pay for it? Without knowledge of these...

Pics of a newbie pipe smoker\'s pipes

Excellent! The first Pipes in any collection will always be special, because they were the first. I've still got the few that survived those early years of learning and they continue to provide good service. They have no artistic merit, are not made from components that are sought after...
