Bought my first "real" tobacco today

Like many, I spent my first year or so with Aromatics. Then I bought a tin of Rattray's Red Rapparee. I never went back to Aromatics. These days, I also avoid heavily cased blends and blends with a Cavendish component, preferring the 'dry' blends, and there a plenty of them, to keep my...

December, 2010 What Are You Smoking?

Good evening. It's Penzance in the Executive. Best to all. http://pipesmagazine.com/members/fred/album/picture/1290 A friend gave me a tin of Penzance with 10 years of age on it. Age makes a big difference in this blend. I've always thought it was a pretty one dimensional smoke, preferring...

    Smoking a Bulldog Pipe

The Bulldog is a great shape. I've not dedicated any of them in my modest collection. The smaller ones I tend to smoke Flake cuts in, but they perform just as well with any cut I burn in them.

    Pipes with Flaws

For me, I find it best to avoid Meerschaums with any cracks in the Block. I can deal with cosmetic flaws and even a tight draft, but the fracture of Block is not always something that can be repaired.

National Association of Pipe Collectors - The Pipe Collector

Thanks guys! Yes, Cortezattic is correct. The Meerschaum Pipe was in use centuries before the French introduced Briar to the smoking world. As you can tell, I enjoy sharing what I've learned. For years, I was the only person I knew who smoked Meerschaums exclusively, save for the...
