A Primer on Peterson Pipes - By Chuck Wright

Excellent article Chuck! It's good to have this information made available in an easy to read and entertaining bit of e-journalism.

How Long Do The Tins & Cans of Tobacco Last?

The intended shelf life of tins of Pipe tobacco is generally held to be 5 years. I cannot speak to Aromatics, as I don't smoke them. I've opened & smoked tins that had 27 years of age and found those blends to be excellent. Tins are time capsules.

I've got to admit steamtrain, that's the most sinister looking Santa I've ever seen. There's got to be a story with this one....

    Cultural Pipe Anthropology

Yes jwp159, back then there was a lot of that Hillbilly Burley grown for personal consumption and as a cash crop. Some of this still goes on in families that have been growing small crops of tobacco for years.

    Cultural Pipe Anthropology

I've often wondered whether we are doing it right. Rotating pipes & tobaccos, regular cleaning & worrying whether our tobacco has dried enough. I'm sure that those old time pipe-smokers would laugh at us & our carrying on.

    Bandsaw vs Thumb

This would be a good time to get some topical antibiotic, scrub the debris out of the flesh and bandage it up. Band saws don't slice. They remove the thickness of the blade, as any saw will. These can be nasty affairs that get infected easily.

    Cultural Pipe Anthropology

Today, at the B&M I was talking with the store manager about one of the old time Pipe smokers that comes in every week and a half for 8oz of one of the shop Aromatics. He smokes a Billiard, with a good part of the plateau cut away on one side, sporting a bit that doesn't quite fit entirely...

    James Fox- Dorisco Mixture?

Dorisco Mixture has a small amount of Cyprian Latakia in it, despite the blend description. In the old sense of the term, it's a light English mixture. I enjoy both Cyprian and Syrian Latakia blends. To me, the main player in this blend are the Virginias. I suspect that those who really...
