Why No Cigar Review Sites Like Tobaccoreviews.com?

Thanks, that is good to know. I'll have to pick up some of the 1881 Periques and give 'em a try.

Why No Cigar Review Sites Like Tobaccoreviews.com?

There were one or two decent sites about 10 or so years ago, but they don't seem to be around anymore. A lot of cigar guys look at anything flavored or using pipe tobacco as not being a premium cigar, so you may not find too many reviews on those types. As far as the DE Dirt goes, my faulty...

What Did a Tin of Tobacco Cost 10 and 20 Years Ago?

In New York, two oz tins were about $9 ten years ago and now are about $18. I don't know how the B&M shops can stay open here. They lose business due to high taxes and license fees are incredibly high here for all types of business.

Observations About My Cigar Palate After Picking Up The Pipe

I agree. I have also found that I can notice a greater profile of flavors in cigars after becoming a pipe smoker. I never had the opportunity to smoke the single leaf cigars they make for tasting events so you can learn how to pick out the blends better. To me, smoking different varieties of...

Aging: 2oz Tins or 8oz Tins?

I've been buying more 8oz tins because I figure by the time I open them, I'll be retired, my son will be grown and I'll have time to enjoy 3-4 bowls a day rather than the 3-4 a week I get to now.

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (March 2016)

Just christened an estate Brebbia go-go nosewarmer with some Petersen era Escudo.

Looking For High Quality Aromatics to Try

I like C&D Autumn Evening and Pipes and Cigars Scotty's Butternut Burley. I would also try blends that have a touch of flavoring like GLP Barbary Coast.

    Cup O' Joes?

Great place, I'm about an hour drive south. Unfortunately, New York state's 53% tobacco tax, then 7% sales tax puts a damper on tin purchases. I can still buy pipes though!

    Cornell and Diehl Small Batch

I enjoy C&D blends a lot and probably will try it, but I hope it doesn't turn out the way the cigar world has over the last few years. It seems most new cigar releases are now limited or regional editions that you have to chase down to get. I understand they want to create a buzz and demand, but...

Pipes For Fun: The Telescopic Pipe

I'm guessing the necessary pipe cleaners would be B.J. "extra" Long's?

    Do We Have The Power?

I don't know how low the internet stores can go on certain brands. A brick and mortar may be willing to take a minimal profit just to possibly get some auxillary business from the sale. Many non-cuban cigar manufacturers have a minimum price (MAP) which is why some auction sites can't offer them...

    Shops vs Online

I would try some from Paul Bonacquisti's shop Park Lane tobacco in Clifton Park NY. He has some great English blends. I haven't tried any of his aromatics.

Check Out What I scored! Pic Heavy!

I'm drooling over the Field and Stream. I know I'm in the minority, but I like it. I have a couple of House of Windsor tins left.Isn't it great when you come across stuff like this?

    "The Smoker" Blends Unavailable?

@misterlowercase Wish I had a better recollection. Last I heard, Mr. Feldman still lived in Albany. He must be around 80 now. Would love to hear him featured on the radio show.

Bow legged bear in a small Kaywoodie with no shape number I need to show pics of someday for the experts to help identify for me.

    "The Smoker" Blends Unavailable?

It was an impressive looking shop that I believe was there since the 1930s-beautiful woodwork and fixtures. I unfortunately don't remember a lot since it was about 20 years ago when I was there and not a pipe smoker at the time. He was closing up the b&m part of his operation and I bought my...

    Would you keep it?

I would keep it for the time being and see if your feelings change. It's a really nice pipe. Think of it as one of the good things you acquired in the last 5 years. You may get rid of it in haste now and then miss it like your Dunhill and Ashton.

Sweet coconut twist in a bent Dunhill tanshell. A little moment of solitary relaxation before the rest of the family get here.

Rub And Dry? Or Dry And Rub?

I rub first. If the strands are too big, I can break them further after drying. If you dry first, you may end up with just little crumbles and dust.

CAO vs Dan tobacco any change?

I was under the impression that it was always a Dan tobacco product made under the CAO name and at the time they wanted to get out of the pipe tobacco side, so it was always the same just with CAO's name removed. They even kept the same pictures on the label. I have a CAO midnight ride that I...
