    Thanks for all the replies. I had seen an old Savinelli (possibly from the 60s) on ebay and it looked like it had a carbon coating and it got me thinking about the history of the process.

    In looking at estate pipes, I was wondering how long and how prevalent bowl coating has been. Any idea who started it and when? If I see a 50 year old estate claiming to be unsmoked, is it possible it would have a coated bowl?

    How many pipes have you lost?

    So far I have one, a 4 digit Kaywoodie bent bulldog. I've been putting it aside for years because the stem was overclocked. There was a thread about fixing it here a few months ago and it gave me the motivation to try to fix it. Now I can't find it for the life of me.

    Briggs & Stratton Gas Can

    I rarely spilled gas until they came up with the safety spout designs. Now it's a given. Plus the spouts on these cans don't last. My dad still uses the cans that I filled the mowers with 30+ years ago and they serve their purpose just fine.

    They pulled some others also. I just got home and the tin I won from you on Sunday was here. I went to leave feedback and I wasn't able to. They pulled the one I won from Twest pipes I won on Sunday also. They don't seem to have any rhyme or reason.

    If you are considering estates, look at Savinelli Lollo or Brebbia Go Go. I have both and like them both.

    A pipe mud question.

    I've had good results with cigar ash and water mixed to a peanut butter consistency. Pipe ash doesn't seem to set as strong for me. I don't think I would use yogurt because I would be afraid of spoilage or mold.
