What Are You Smoking? May 2013

McCelland's Jubilee in a Ben Wade freehand. Buffalo Trace for sipping..

    Frog Morton on the Town

I think Cellar is very good, but I think it over shadows Town a bit. For me, Town is a little more subtle and refreshing. Cellar is great but I like the softer sides of Town when I want something sweet.

What's in the Mail? (Today's Purchase)

Today the mail carrier brought me a Frank Genna estate pipe, a unmarked bent billiard estate, and a bar of carnuba wax. I've got the estates sitting with salt and alcohol in them as we speak. Hopefully I'll get some restoration time this weekend.

Got My First VaPer: Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake

Glad you enjoyed it! Its a nice simple and clean smoke for me. I like it in a cob in my work truck. LBF is still my go to bulk but I plan on keeping LNF on hand. Course Prairie Wind is another go to bulk for me...

    Matches?

I use Diamond Green Strike matches most days. When I'm driving at work I just use a bic for relights. Djeep are still my favorite disposable lighters.

Help With IDing Brand Of Pipe

Prices are always so hard. If I wanted that particular pipe, $50 would be the limit. But I'm cheap. Or maybe I'm just easily amused with cleaning up $20 pipes.

    Mr. Brog's Great Customer Service

I'm glad you had a good experience with them. I have a Mr. Brog pear wood that smoked very well. I just haven't picked it up lately. I bought it out of curiosity and honestly because my wife and kids are Polish.

    Pipemaker Frank Genna: Information?

Thanks for looking Roth. It's an "odd" (and I mean that nicely) shaped little pipe. It's got an apple shape with a slightly bent stem (like one day it might have grown up into a hawkbill), the stem looks like it might need some sanding to make it fit better with the shank but it might just be...

    NHL Playoffs

Re: Wings. I KNEW I should have worn my Red Wing's jersey. It would have helped. On a side note my wife's ENTIRE family are Blackhawks fans. Not only do we give each other massive amounts of grief over hockey, but all my kid's hockey hand me downs are Blackhawks clothes... I hug them less...

What Are You Smoking? May 2013

McCelland's Beacon (again) in a Stanwell 139. Coffee. Driving around the city seeing all the jobs I'm not going to be able to do before the weekend.

    The Duke of What Pipe?

Duke of Whatchamacallit. Very underrated brand. Made in the in the late 1930's by Hanz Fritzman. He was blind and only used his teeth to carve briar that was hand cut by Sardinian wood nymphs.

    Spitting?

Hey loseth. When you do it are you drinking something? When I dabbled in smoking cigars I found myself wanting to spit IF I wasn't drinking something. Not so much with pipes.

    Pipemaker Frank Genna: Information?

I purchased an estate that Frank Genna made. It had a "good" vibe and I'm partial to apple-ish shapes. I was wondering if anyone had any information about him. I've googled him a bit and all I could find was the following... He supposedly didn't like hiding flaws, none of "his" websites work...

    Tasty Piece of Briar...

I dub thee the "Big Dipper". That is a great looking pipe. Thank you for sharing it. Also...avatars. Took me a few tries till I found this...

    Think I've Found My VAPer!

Dragon I just ordered some Tudor Castle from P&C when they had their McCelland's sale. Never tried it. I also added some Black Parrot on a whim. My order is still backordered (it's cool) and I've still got some tins to finish before I open anything new.

My 1st Meerschaum Pipe (Claw Style)

Arab good to see you back! I hope you enjoy your new pipe. I haven't smoked any of those tobaccos but the warnings always give me a chuckle. WARNING: Smoking causes you to kick puppies and drown any kittens around you.

What Are You Smoking? May 2013

McCelland's Beacon in a Stanwell 139 with some 7-11 coffee. Driving around checking job sites at work. That was the first good smoke I've had in that pipe. I hadn't touched it in months. I guess I'll take it off of my re-sell list.

Chicago Pipe Making Seminar (LOTS of pix!)

Big Van I REALLY appreciate you posting all of your Chicago pics. If there was an award for member of the month it would be all you Big V.

    Think I've Found My VAPer!

Andrew I don't think you'll be disappointed in Marlin Flake. Its like smoking raisins lightly sprinkled with fine ground white pepper. Its sticky and I like rip/rubbing it out. I twist it to break it into smallish pieces, pack those, then rub a little out for the top of the bowl.

Cleanest Pipe Ever, or Horrible Ghosting?

Hehe. I'm betting you'll get a bit of soap taste and smell for a few smokes. But its better then drying it. Once one of the baggers at the grocery store put drier sheets in with some baked goods.....you couldn't get that taste out.
