    The "Charring Light"

The C&D crumble-cakes and their brethren tend to take a light immediately; for just about everything else, I char, tamp, and light.

    Smart Phones

We were on a party line -- my family, my grandmother, and the post office. As I wrote elsewhere on this site, my sister and I weren't allowed to be on the phone during business hours in the summer or on snow days because someone might have been trying to call the USPS. I'm 40 and have never...

    Where Are You Located?

I was raised in Grayson County, VA - just to the west of you. Grew up hiking the Appalachian Trail and fly-fishing. Now I've been in northern VA for 20 years. Not the same, but that's where the job is.

    Your Fathers Favorite Sayings

Mine, too, sothron. He also likes "Busier than a one-legged man at a butt-kickin'."

    Your Favorite English Blend?

Nightcap. Can't be happy without it. I also really like 965. Chelsea Morning and Samarra are also fine offerings from G.L. Pease.

Getting RLP-6 and 1Q to Smoke Better

I know a former tobacconist who likes to mix RLP-6 equally with HC-3 and PS 9F, with really nice results.

    Single Malts.

I hesitated to call it an Islay, but thought it was close enough. It's been a nice dram for me. The Orkneys have been my favorite over the years, but they've gotten to be so expensive that I will pass them over for something more reasonably priced. I'm a fan of latakia - Nightcap, Ten...

    Single Malts.

I enjoy the Laphroig 10 and the Quarter Cask immensely, but the sleeper Islay for me is Jura - it's a great bargain compared to the others, IMO.

List Your Other Hobbies / Interests

Me, too. My wife and I live just outside Washington, D.C. and we're very lucky to have several options in that direction. Our parish has a missa cantata every Sunday - everything from chant to Palestrina to Dutilleux when the schola's feeling froggy... What part of the world are you in?

Had a Friendly Argument With an Old Friend About Pipe Smoking

The notion that you're not getting all the good out of it or your money's worth if you don't inhale is amusing. Does that apply to chewing tobacco? (I did know a fellow who would chew Levi Garrett and swallow. Makes me feel queasy even now.)
