Just an observation but I have had a few pipes with smaller bowls and they seemed to be more particular about dryness and packing.

Not Cleaning the Pipe as Thoroughly

Choice of pipe, choice of tobacco & choice of maintenance are ALL different to different smokers. I am happy for the diversity and honor what works for you. The strength of this community is being able to express what each of us enjoys without being dogmatic about being "the only way". Have seen...

How do I repack an opened loose pipe tobacco?

If stored in a cool dark location, closet, there isn't any difference between mylar or mason jars. If using ziplock bags be sure to use the freezer bags instead of the sticky\orage bags. Freezer bags have thicker walls.

    Cellaring tobacco - questions

First absolute is that their are very few absolutes. My experience has been that aromatics start loosing flavor after 2 to 5 years of cellaring. Straight VA's, Cavendish & Burley's or blends either collared or stoved(another can of worms) seem to have an indefinite storage life. Always use many...

    Burnout ? What should I Do ?

General rule of thumb is to ream / sand back to near or to bare wood before salt treatment. The pipe started life as bare wood and can restart from bare wood again.

Had a Tin Lose its Seal

All of my tins are round and although only have a dozen or so they are just fine after 10+ years. I tend to gravitate to bulk tobaccos stored in pint mason jars and have probably 75 t 80 over 25 years old that are stable and fantastic when opened. Just my experience...

    Different Pipes for Different Blends

I take a simple approach, style and bowl size. Style because I like it and bowl size based on if I have time for a longer smoke or not. As I said, simple... Disclaimer: I do what works for me because I am the only person that I have to please... ? YMMV

Not Cleaning the Pipe as Thoroughly

I have heard of smokers successfully washing/rinsing briar without any ill effects. For me, wood is wood and the only time I mix water and wood is to raise the grain for final sanding. Whatever works for you ix fantastic. I choose the more conservative path and we both enjoy our favorite...
