    My first English tobacco

Stokkebye's Proper English, Balkan Sasieni, Dunhill London Mixture, Nightcap, EMP, Squadron Leader - these are some of my favorites. There's a gazillion more...

    Dunhill Night Cap: Your opinion.

Nightcap is... absolute bliss in a tin. I have to admit, I prefer the Murray's incarnation to the current Orlik offering but this tobacco holds such a fond spot in my memory, that I was almost giddy when it returned. It was the first English Blend I ever smoked. I bought a tin of it and a...

OK We Have English and American English Blends

American-style English blends usually have something like a cube-cut or ribbon-cut burley mixed in with the Latakia and/or Orientals. You might find some deertongue and/or perique in there too. Some blends that come to mind are Barking Dog, Walnut, Country Doctor, Revelation,C&D Easy Times...

I would suggest you pick up a tin of Dunhill Early Morning Pipe. You will open the tin and think, "what the hell is that stench?". Then you will smoke a bowl and you may not go back to aromatics again. Welcome to the forum. :puffy:

It's Not A Gandalf! (mini rant)

For my birthday, I received a long, clay churchwarden pipe that was made in Colonial Williamsburg. I can't get myself to call it a Gandalf. I'm thinking of calling it a Witch Hunter...

December 2011 - What Are You Smoking? II

Well the company is all gone so now I can put away all my "crowd pleaser" aromatics and have my own kind of Xmas smoke. PS Proper English in a no name saddle bit billiard stamped Holland. Happy Holidays! :puffy:

Feeling all "Christmasy" with a huge bowl-full of Buttered Rum in the big R&L aromatic pipe. :puffy:

Does ANYBODY actually like Borkum Riff?

There are certainly better blends out there but BR Whiskey, if smoked slowly, is kind of a fun smoke for me. It evokes memories of me sneaking Dad's Playboy magazine and remembering all the old ads (and other things :P). Stuff like Flying Dutchman and Borkum Riff Whiskey. Full page ads of a...

If You Could Only Smoke One Brand . . .

Have you tried The Royal Yacht? It is Dunhill's riff on an aromatic. It is a rich blend of Virginias with a sort of currant, fig scented topping. High nicotine hit - not recommended on an empty stomach. Another blend which hasn't been retained in the new USA introduction was Elizabethan...

December 2011 - What Are You Smoking?

Sun pouring through the bare trees beyond the back porch. It's Irish Oak time here in the high desert. :puffy:

If You Could Only Smoke One Brand . . .

One Brand? Hmmm. I'll go with Dunhill. You can probably imagine my concern when it "disappeared" from the USA for a spell. All the Dunhill blends just seem to pack a certain high quality in the weed and a skill in the blending that I find very appealing. I look at the collection of empty...

    Perique Strength

On the Bayou seemed (to me) rather light as far as perique blends go. H&H's Louisiana Red has a sizeable pinch of perique mixed with red Virginia. It's a good VaPer. I'll second the DeLuxe Navy Rolls. You might also try Peterson's Irish Oak. There's a lot of good ones out there to try.
