Smoking in Public - Best Experiences

A number of times my friend and I have smoked our pipes in public. So far we have never had any one give us a hassle. Most of the people we have encountered have been very pleasant and several have commented on how nice that smells. I usually smoke Hiland's Black Gold when in public.

    Introducing First Time Smoker: Tips?

Boswell's Northwoods might be a good place to start. When I had my first bowl my friend shared his Shenandoah blend from Georgetown Tobacco. I really liked that.

What did You do Today When Smoking Your Pipe?

Humidex up over 40 today. Just too hot on the patio for a bowl. I suppose I could light up a cigar but even then. . .

Haven't Smoked in 12 Days - Going Crazy

Had oral surgery for teeth and could not smoke my pipe for about three weeks. Even though I only smoke 4 - 5 bowls a week it was suddenly frustrating to know I could not partake of this wonderful pastime!

    Improvised Tamper

Some great ideas here. I have pipe cases for most of my pipes and had purchased a box of horse shoe nails. They work really well both as tampers and the sharp end for digging and poking. I keep one in every case.

I think I Just Got Lucky

My first pipe was one I picked up at a church rummage sale - estate Vauen 3/4 bent in leather case and pipe tool - all for $0.25. Yes, cents. You really did luck out. Welcome and enjoy the forum and your new pipe. Boswell's, an excellent start.

Bet You'll Never Guess What I Found

I'd say either a Peterson or an Italian make. From there I am stumped. It will be interesting to see it cleaned up. Great find!

    Any Jazz Fans?????

Don't know how I missed Diana Krall and Holly Cole, two of my favourites! What was I thinking. . .

    Tobacco Rotation

My rotation is a long one as I only smoke 3 - 4 bowls a week. I have eight pipes that form my regular working group - two churchwardens, two Sixten Ivarsson designed Stanwell Royal Guards, a Brigham briar voyageur, and Peterson Mark Twain, and two meerschaums - a plain smooth bowl, and a...
