***What Are You Smoking, February 2022?***

G.L. Pease Cairo in a Rossi Vittoria 122. I like the pipe so much that I bought a Savinelli 122 as well. This blend is really growing on me.

Is a Basket Pipe Better than a Cob?

These folks have covered this pretty well. I will only add that I once got a lot of 10 cob pipes from Missouri Meerschaum that were their “seconds”, essentially a bag of cob basket pipes for $20 or $30. Their flaws were cosmetic: small nicks or chips. They all smoked great and I still have at...

Hello from the Mountains of North Georgia.

Good morning and welcome from Albemarle County, VA.

Honey Smoke from Milan Tobacconists in a MM corn cob. Just when I’d sworn off aromatics….

***What Are You Smoking, February 2022?***

    Peterson Deerstalker?

I prefer slightly bent to bent shapes because I find them to balance better with the way I smoke despite thinking straight billiards and Canadians look spiffiest. It’s a taller bowl version of a bent Rhodesian, a shape I like anyway. I don’t recall Rathbone ever smoking something like it in the...

    Peterson Deerstalker?

There are some on eBay, shipping from Europe. My experimental impulse won out and I decided to go for the P-Lip version with a sandblasted finish. I suspect it to arrive Saturday if not tomorrow.

    Peterson Deerstalker?

I find that I like the look of smooth briar, but prefer the tactile feel of sandblast or rusticated finishes and more usually reach for those especially if I’m going to be moving around. It’s funny how it works out: visual appeal vs. comfort.

    Peterson Deerstalker?

    I love that toothpick!

Having a drink with your smoke?

I don’t drink alcohol, but sometimes drink hot tea with my pipe (while smoking a pipe, I mean. Not using it as a straw.). I usually go with English tea blends like Yorkshire Red or Gold. Black or red Chinese teas hold up to smoking ok too. I’d go with pu’erh, which is aged and more fermented...

    Peterson Deerstalker?

Hey forumites, I‘m looking at this design and hesitating to buy one, as I have no experience with Petersons and, therefore, with P-Lips. What are your experiences with this pipe specifically and with Peterson and P-lips generally? I see that a “fishtail” version exists, but is more difficult to...

    What Was your First Pipe?

I bought an Italian bent apple ”basket pipe” for a $25, which I thought to be a lot of money being in college in 1991. Unfortunately, I lost it in a move. Despite preferring the looks of shiny Canadians and the more sleek billiards, I still find that and similar shapes to be most comfortable...

Whose Pipes do You Have the Most of?

    A three-way tie: 2 Missouri Meerschaum 2 Rossi 2 Savinelli and a H.I.S. “basket” pipe, a Barling, and a Ropp.

Did I Just Make A Mistake?

She might like hearing “I thought about it and I think you were right, a grinder is a good idea.” Just celebrated my tenth wedding anniversary. Being “right” is the verbal equivalent of flowers at work.

***What Are You Smoking, February 2022?***

It’s my birthday. So, I treated myself to this new Savinelli. Virginia is blessed with a sunny day in the mid 40’s. My dog and I are taking advantage of our deck. I took a cavalier attitude toward conditioning my new pipe, forgoing conventional wisdom in that regard, by smoking a leisurely bowl...
