Creating your own Cigar Leaf blends?

I just take a fresh, unsmoked cigar of choice and take a small coin (1/8") off of the foot. You can choose seriously quality cigars - whatever you like this way. Personally, I like to use cigars like Liga 9, T52, Oliva V Melanio, Foundation Tabernacle, LFD etc. These are all dark, stout, and...

    Solitary or Social Smoker?

Dude - those are the major food groups in our cigar shops here!

    Solitary or Social Smoker?

Here in Florida, Pipe shops are very few and far between. As a result, I am another who usually goes solo. I'm perplexed as to why cigar shops don't broaden their offerings and offer pipes and pipe tobacco in addition to the cigars. Cigar shops on every corner here!

Creating your own Cigar Leaf blends?

I'm experimenting with using a bit of my preferred premium cigars to add real quality cigar leaf to various pipe blends and have had good success thus far. I find that it only takes a small amount to add that unique taste. Using various brands and styles give noticeably different results. My...

    Tampa Sweethearts Visit...and Then Some.

TS is a great little cigar shop. All of your favorite Fuente, Ashton, etc. cigars in the most friendly shop around. The run over from Sarasota is not too long, so I visit there often. A bonus is to be able to hit Edwards pipe shop in the same trip. Makes for a good pipe & cigar road trip!

    Favorite Cigarillos?

After enjoying cigars many years, I recently discovered cheroots / dry cigars. Toscano and Parodi makes some unusually good little 30 minute sticks. They have a smoky, fire cured taste profile with just a hint of sweetness. I find these to have a better taste than many premium cigars, at a...

    What's your Ideal Grinder?

You know - those tough flakes or plugs. What do you use for grinding them for best results? A plastic herb / weed hand grinder? A coffee grinder? Or, is there a small electric herb grinder you care to recommend? I have a medium-large hand herb grinder that works, but needs some careful...

    Latakia and English blends

Give Kramer's Father Dempsey a try. It is a very good, smooth medium English blend that is slightly on the sweeter side. The Latakia is toned down and is more of a complementary player. Another good one is Rattray's Red Rapparee - a Scottish blend. Very nice and also smooth.

Your Favorite Classic Blends (Virginia, Burly, English, etc) and Why?

My preferences lean towards English and Scottish blends. Currently, I'm exploring several burley blends to find a few that ring the bell. Try Kramer's Father Dempsey for a really good medium English. Rattray's Red Rapparee is a great Scottish! As for Burleys, I've found Pegasus to be quite...

What Does Abusing a Return Policy Look Like?

I've found that even some of the premier names that handle estates are getting a bit sloppy with respect to cleaning and divulging minor issues that may be deal breakers. Two of my recent past purchases from well regarded sellers had issues. In one case, SP, an otherwise pristine 4th...

    Which Oxiclean To Use?

I'm working on a few vulcanite pipe stems that have oxidized significantly and plan to use Oxiclean to help bring them back to black. Which oxiclean product is best to use for that? Thanks, RR

    GLP Must Have Blends

What do you deem 'Must Have' GLP blends? I have a good stock in the cellar and am looking scratch the TAD itch and add a few more. We know about the usual suspects, like Quiet Nights, Abingdon, Odyssey, etc. How about others?

    Dr. Grabow Experts Please

Yep - the Eldorado was a high end offering. The 81 is an Author (my favorite, as you can see). IMHO, one of their better styles. I believe yours may also be an adjustomatic. If you ever decide to pass that one along...! Enjoy!

Preferred Bowl Size For Burley Blends

I'm thoroughly enjoying my adventure with Burley blends and am looking to see if there may be better ways to smoke them. So, do any of you all have preferences in bowl size for your favorite Burleys? And as an interesting side note, do you dedicate a pipe to Burleys?

    Lip Sore After Smoking

Hmmm - maybe try drying your pipe tobacco a bit to cut down on the relights. Relighting can be hot on the mouth and tongue. Another thought...try tobaccos that are known to need fewer relights.

    Lip Sore After Smoking

Try drawing more softly - sipping. If the pipe bowl gets hot, set it down and allow to cool. Relighting a pipe bowl that has gone out is not a bad thing with pipes and actually can give a good taste to the bowl.
