Don't Carry Pipes In Your Pocket!!!!

I also like the "new look". It might even serve as a better pocket pipe now. I have a so called "Opera Pipe" in my collection that Web sources say was made to carry in a vest pocket. It shows a bit of wear to support that information. It's sort of a flattened pick axe shape. I don't wear vests...

    End of Smoking?

"The power of tobacco companies..." Yeah, right, like tobacco companies have the power of taxation and legislation and enforcement from the muzzle of a gun. The only power tobacco companies have is derived from our desire to use it. It's government that stands in the way of that and government...

Cob or Briar? W/hy not both?

"Snob Cob" is a great name for a nice looking pipe! I put up the winning bid on what appears to be a briar/cob look alike. There was only one picture supplied with very little in the way of description but had the frequent eBay disclaimer, "I know nothing about pipes....". I was willing to...

    Country Music

anglesey: "The cor anglais at the beginning is beautiful." It is, and I also like the cornetto and sackbut in there as well. I bought a cornetto from Christopher Monk many years ago but only managed to squawk out a few notes before nearly having a stroke from the back pressure. Maybe someday...

    Today's Haul

I was going to wait a month before I hit the local antique store again, but after seeing this I can't wait!

    Country Music

I specialize in Renaissance and Baroque music but I also enjoy playing bass in Bluegrass and Old Time music. For pipe and music enjoyment there is nothing like listening to J.S. Bach's, "Die Kunst der Fuge" while puffing. Art of the Fugue

How to Ruin a Perfectly Good Pipe

I was browsing eBay tonight looking for a deal when I ran across an Astor "London Made" pipe. It had some good grain and clean up potential for it's measly $12.00 price until I saw this: That would take some pretty deep sanding and refinishing! Has anyone done anything like this to one of his...

Here's from my porch tonight. Nice, but it would have more appreciated around Christmas!

    Boycott List

If we all were able to pay for our own health care life would be much easier for us pipe smokers, but that's the leash that's being used to keep us in line. The problem is we have delegated so much of the responsibility of our lives to government agencies, insurance companies and employers so...

    Low Grade Pipe Adventure #2

That is indeed a nice looking pipe, and the price is right too! I have an old Kaywoodie that is carbureted as well. I can't tell if it really makes any difference in the smoke.

What are You Smoking? February 1, 2014

FMOTB in a Chesterfield Selkirk. It's like a steak dinner in a pipe bowl.

    Stem Sticking

I sometimes use "cork grease" or a vegetable based lubricant. It's basically the same thing clarinet players use to keep the joints of their instruments from sticking. I wonder if a light coating of olive oil might work as well. I've heard some people use chapstick.

CVS Stores to Stop Selling Tobacco

So it's ok to fund healthcare programs with tobacco money but not ok to actually sell tobacco in a drug store?

    Pipes Short and Sweet

The tobacco flavor certainly is more intense in these small pipes. I'll take them with me on vacation this summer.

    RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman

I've also recently lost a relative to drug overdose and there was a lot of venting and ill will expressed among family members towards the deceased. He had made all the wrong choices in life having been arrested many times, threatening family members, injuring others while driving without a...

    RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Heroin is a drug you can get addicted to on the very first try. One time and you are done. I think a mistake made among some of the rich and famous (who can afford to buy this stuff) is that they are immune from addiction. A lot of "regular" people hold that view as well. I'd like to see more...

    Pipes Short and Sweet

Two of my newer acquisitions, here is a Kaywoodie Colt with a Yello Bole Pug rejuvenated and ready for a quick smoke. I've read that these pipes were marketed to college students for brief smokes between classes though I haven't come across a vintage ad to that effect yet.
