    A Churchill's Estate

Made for Churchill's of Norwich, England, this pipe has found its way to me in Oregon.Must have been quite a trip. It's been stripped, base coated with black stain, then mahogany, sanitized, buffed and waxed. The large bowl has a nice feeling in the hand but a little heavy in the mouth. Very...

    A POET'S PIPE

I enjoy reading the pipe poetry. I send them to my wife, the English Lit major who critiques them for me :-)

    Fragile Briar Pipes

I've always enjoyed doing things with my hands. I'm a musician, model builder and pharmacy technician. So repairing old pipes is something I'm geared for. I also have an interest in history and the pipe hobby feeds that as well. Smoking pipes is also great as is the "science" of tobacco...

Look what I found sleeping in the corner of a junk shop...!

Papipeguy, I like your Harcourt, too! It looks like something you might pick up on the forest floor. :-) Very "natural" looking.

    Estate Mastercraft Silverking

I wanted to say "Restored" in the subject line, but all this pipe needed was cleaning and buffing, and very little of that. Pipe cleaners and swabs all came out nearly white and the drill bit looking stinger is gleaming. This pipe must of been smoked once or twice then put in a drawer for 35...

How to wax to get the shine?

I always hand buff the pipe after using white diamond to make sure no residue is left. I've found that a black undercoating of stain helps to hide fills. Some use a black Sharpie pen to darken fills before staining.

Canada: Manitoba Introduces Bill To Ban All Flavored Tobacco

Oh my God! Somebody is enjoying something somewhere? We must put an end to that!

Look what I found sleeping in the corner of a junk shop...!

I bet you ran out of that shop and didn't dare look back. That's a steal!

    Make of Pipe?

It's hard to make out the stamping. Does it say "Made in Italy" with a cursive logo and "B" underneath? Maybe you could get a magnifying glass and decipher that logo. It almost looks like a signature, but it's too dark to make out on my monitor.

    ?? For you cob smokers:

This my only cobb so by default it's my largest. The tobacco chamber is a little less than inch wide and deep. It's a pretty chunky cobb at six inches long.

HOW I BECAME A CAT LOVER

trailboss: We have both dogs and cats. They both have their own qualities, of course. Dogs are more demanding for your attention but are more like buddies than cats would every care to be. Cats are quiet companions and sometimes I like that best.

Tell them the subscriber has passed away and the continued bills are a painful reminder of his absence.

    Black Super Glue?

I bought some black superglue from Amazon but the bottle arrived dry. Other buyers were reporting the same problem. I've used the regular gel form for stem repairs with good success. After sanding and polishing it hardly shows.

Drug Store Pipe - Spotted One At Last!

There is one place behind one check stand at my local grocery store that has a couple of Dr Grabow Freehands, ($36.00) pipe cleaners and lighters. I had to ask in order to find them. They have no tobacco, not even a pouch of Captain Black!

    Beall Buffing kit

I just use a variable speed drill resting on my knee. High speed for transferring compound to the wheel and low speeds for buffing and polishing. I finish by hand with a soft cloth.

    Fragile Briar Pipes

I've got over sixty estate pipes in my collection now and I've only broken two of them during the "restoration" process. Both times I was just using too much force due to a lack of patience. One I cracked the bowl by too zealously reaming. The other I shattered the stem trying to twist it loose...

HOW I BECAME A CAT LOVER

Thanks for posting that story. I have a massive orange tabby named Orion. Recently he's been showing up at the closed door of my smoking room scratching and bumping to let me know he wants in. So I'm in my smoking chair when he hops up into my lap and paws at my hand as if he wants to check out...

***What Are You Smoking*** (April 2014)

Had a very relaxing night after a crappy work day with PS Balkan Supreme in Masterson Freehand followed by Molto Dolce in an old Ropp cherry wood pipe. A large glass of Yellow Tail Shiraz put a nice polish on the experience. Sublime.
