Which "cheap" pipe in your collection smokes best?

Without a doubt my Doc Grabow Silver Duke (middle pipe) purchased for $0.99 wins this test. The other two dukes there were under ten bucks and they are also great pipes. I've got a lot others in this category. My Medico Jet Streams are all winners. Jet Stream Link

    Dunhill My Mixture 965

MM 965 is one of those blends I really wanted to like but I just can't seem to make it work for me. The taste is something like chewing on a mouthful of aspirin tablets. Now Squadron Leader is one of my favorites so I can't say what my problem is here. I'm thinking I got a bad batch or I just...

    Breaking News on the Burglary

12pups, I know this is going to be a huge relief when everything is accounted for and returned. I'm happy it's all coming together now.

Devil Anse Cutty by Moonshine Pipeworks

Recognizing pipe shapes is not always easy for me, particularly hybrid shapes and artistic renderings. I would think this example would be a "pudgy dublin".

    In Defense of Brylon Pipes

Crack just might work in a Brylon pipe.

    In Defense of Brylon Pipes

Well it has to provide good taste too! I'm not trying to be a contrarian and I understand and enjoy the room here for comedic comments, but look, I just smoked the same tobacco in my brand new Peterson Harp. Guess which I enjoyed more? I know...sacrilege! The Harp will improve with age, I...

    Royal Duke of Dundee

I came across this listing last week for a "Royal Duke Air Conditioned" pipe. I thought Royal Duke was a Doctor Grabow pipe, but this thing seemed completely different and thus, interesting. Here's the before: And here's after some spit and polish: I managed to get all the tar off the rim but...

    In Defense of Brylon Pipes

Ha ha! This is exactly the kind of response I thought my post would get! I have to tell you though, it wasn't THAT bad!

    In Defense of Brylon Pipes

Ok, this is a very mild defence of Brylon, because I can now see the pluses and minuses of them after spending five bucks on ebay on this Medico Brylon pipe. (I've never owned one before this) After doing a cleanup of the pipe, I considered which tobacco to try first. I chose Sutliff "Old San...

Why Can't I Make it to the Bottom of the Bowl?!

Just echoing what everybody above says. My general observation is that aromatics are best enjoyed from top to mid-bowl while my precious balkans become more flavorful from the last half to the very end.

    How Do You Guys Carry?

I use an small zip up leather camera case with the tobacco contained in a zip lock bag. I carry a pipe, a couple of lighters, pipe cleaners and a pipe tool in it.

Is Buying Pipes Too Much Fun?

I really try to abide my rule of no bidding on more pipes until the last one arrives but I'm already up to three for this week! I've got some interesting stuff on the way in including a Ben Neves Cutty clay pipe which is unusual for me. Even with those three pipes I'm under my $20.00 limit so I...

    Tom Thumb Pipes-Who's Familiar?

I have one I bought from Fink Cigar Company years ago. They also didn't allow a choice but I was happy with what I got. It still serves me well when called upon.

Breaking In A New Pete - Strange Taste...

I'll be inaugurating my new Pete this weekend so I'll be following this advice.
