I won't worry about being a codger. Just because a blend is preferred by grumpy old men, it does not mean that all people who smoke the blend are codgers. Drawing on an Unlit Pipe
I would say, no you are not getting any nicotine why drawing air through and unlit pipe. I would imagine that there would be need to be some other event to cause a release of nicotine from the leaf into the air ie. burning the tobacco. Having said that, I am not a scientist so I could be wrong...- jndyer

You have been given a lot of good advice here. I am in the camp that you are smoking the blend too hot. Lane 1Q has, to my tastes, a very light flavor that can get obliterated when you smoke it too hot. Small sips with a low number of sips per minuet will be best. Proper tobacco storage from a tin
I typically take two or three weeks to smoke through a tin and typically the tobacco is fine over that time frame. Of course, I like my tobacco fairly dry.- jndyer
