    Carvers Helping Carvers

Happy to buy a ticket. Though I win draws rarely and therefore have a standard aversion to games of chance, I think this goes toward a good concept! But I can HOPE.... (with R714344127)! Those pipes rock!

    World Cup ... Lethargy?

A lot of Canucks with a European background love to follow the tourney once every four years (many stem from the UK), almost as much as hockey. Even though the country for which I was cheering was bounced (Germany), I am truly fascinated by the strategies. But I am enough of a Canucklehead with...

The Country Squire Moving - Exclusive Sneak Peek

Looking forward to more photos, pylorns! I enjoyed the article. It makes me want to travel to Jackson, Mississippi and visit the shop :)

    First try at pipe smoking

Some good tips in here! I remember my Grandfather told me his 3 principles of the pipe, which are echoed in this thread: 1. Time (give the smoke a good measure of it, avoid any rush). 2. Dry (the tobacco). 3. Sip (the pipe). I always remembered his tips by the acronym TDS; and it is true that a...

The Hype Behind Astley's No. 44

I know it is one that Harris really loves, but from the same genre, I do prefer Wessex - Campaign Dark Flake (Brigade); however both are challenging to locate these days.

Story of How the Wife and I Rescued a Dog

Good to know the story. Thanks. --> Long may your dog rock!

Yikes! The Tin Note - Yum! The Taste

3Ps, great plug by Peterson but I recall the first time I opened a tin ... no way to get around the fact that had a manure scent. But a great smoke if you enjoy the genre.

    According tea(s) to tobacco(s)

Compared to my wife and the tea drinkers in this thread, I am a very simple tea man. I love English Breakfast from Murchies and, when I can find it, I love Jasmine tea. I will drink tea in the evenings, and in the mornings I drink bold, dark roasted coffees. Though I like both with a pipe, I...

    Show Us Your Pipe Knives

Weez, I use one of those awesome carbon Opinel No.8's for cutting plugs, too. Great blade that is easily kept razor sharp. Love the rounded tip for reaming though. Hard to beat Opinel for quality/coast.

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (July 2018)

Smoking a bowl of JKP in a Castello Fiammata Collection bent billiard while watching the England vs Sweden quarter final match.

    Favorite Pipe Makers...

Of course what Sable wisely advises depends on your fiscal situation. If you have the $ to spend on your cellar and to expand the troops on your rack, then you can go to town. Personally I follow Sable's view for the most part, as I spend $ mostly on tobacco, as I have accumulated a very fine...

    Basic pipe dedication?

I smoke Burleys, VAs, VA-Per and VA-Bur tobacco formulations. Given my taste buds I have no need to worry about dedicating pipes as I find VAs and Burleys are OK together. But when or if I get a desire to smoke an aromatic or latakia blend, I'd use a specific pipe for either type. If you ever...

    Show Us Your Pipe Knives

Mine is a kid's Opinel knife with the rounded tip. Works well and the knife is not expensive and readily available through amazon.

Is the pipe a tool? (I think so)

Well to answer you properly, you'd need to clarify what constitutes "fine" as opposed to "simple" pipes? Most pipes possess a simple mechanism and they are fine insofar as that simple tobacco delivery system functions well. Or do you mean by fine something more like 'luxurious' or 'refined' and...

    New Piper Here

WELCOME! I've been piping since the late 80s, and I have been a burley aficionado since the mid 90s. I love VAs too, especially when mixed as in a VA-bur blend like JKP. For sometime Solani ABF and Wessex Burley Slices have been my go to blends. Both are challenging to find now, so I am...

    Just Getting into Burley

badbeard -- your GL PEASE selections REQUIRE the plugs Triple Play & JackKnifePlug.... and your Mac Baren selections lack the REQUIRED HH Burley Flake :) Don't hold back on the burley joy for the OP! :puffy: BTW, seriously what do you think of the PS Toasted Burley? It is one I have not tried...

Found My Threshold Blend for Nicotine

HH Bold Kentucky is a killer flavourful smoke. Strong in body and I love to smoke it sometimes with a straight VA or straight mild burley (not C&D burley flake no.1 or 3); doing so will definitely offer other flavours and give the combination a bit of ummmph, but also it will dilute the vitamin...

    How to properly relight

True; it is this simple notion which smooths out numerous rough edges in pipe smoking. Dry ALMOST crispy tobacco lights well, packs more easily, stays lit well and sips well. In fact, in most cases I find dry tobacco tastes more flavourful than more moist tobacco. And not too mention moist...
