Maigret, The Series and The Books.

I have mostly the new Penguin English language translations. For the most part, they’re wonderfully done. Maigret is such a rich character and his technique so remarkable. I’m by no means a guy that looks for tobacco references, but for Maigret, everything was so important. There really was...

Public Service Announcement Regarding Savinelli's Doblone d'Oro

I'd blame not being able to tell tongue in cheek humor unless someone inserts an emoji. Bloody hell, some of you boys take stuff pretty darned seriously.

    Your Most Versatile Blend

Best Brown Flake. Other tobacco is frankly superfluous. I dally with perky young vapers from time to time, and consider leaving for good, but I always come home. I don't know why I roam.

    Vintage Dunhill Stain Discoloration

    Ees grain. Close-a da box.

Public Service Announcement Regarding Savinelli's Doblone d'Oro

Why do you people do this? I like a tobacco underneath the radar, one of you boogers goes and does this and the next thing you know, some lonely old feeblefester buys forty pounds of the stuff because he thinks he’s immortal and I can’t get it any more. Then, when he kicks off two months...

Which Pipe Material If You Had To Choose One

    Meerschaum without shadow of doubt.

    Do You Smoke Your Dottles?

    No. I abominate the excresence.
  8. hugodrax

Maigret, The Series and The Books.

Je m’appele Paul aussi, monsieur. Vous êtes corretes. Milles merci pour votre explication de cela que j'ai dit. Maigret, il etait le fils d’un registeur et ses goûts étaient ceux d’un paysan.

    State Of The Cellar Report

A wondrous phrase. Contentment. Me, too. Just a few tins as I purchase and smoke through a tin a week. Admire your collections, gentlemen, but I'm happy, too.

    Saving The Box

Neat. But paragraph breaks, man. Paragraph breaks.
  11. hugodrax

Maigret, The Series and The Books.

Maigret smoked caporal gris, sir. While it was never mentioned, the grey paper packet is and that gives it away.

    Samuel Gawith Brown No. 4

That's so odd, to me I get the Black Ropes and can taste them, while the brown boogers are just an acrid sensation. Oh well, we don't compete for resources!

    Samuel Gawith Brown No. 4

That first guy looks like a Welsh miner (minor) to me. Maybe he'll like your rope.
  14. hugodrax

    Samuel Gawith Brown No. 4

Yeah, yeah. The real guys that smoked this were 4 feet tall hunchbacked Welshmen (but I repeat myself) that died ot' stagnation oft' loong when they were thirty-five. Ever wonder why he ended up governor of California? Store bought muscles and a preference for the eingemachefrau.

    Samuel Gawith Brown No. 4

We romanticize the British working classes of the 19th century. The backbone of Empire they might have been, but their existence was bleak and even their pleasures questionable by modern standards. This stuff epitomizes the brutality of the age. Damned near singed my nut hairs off, it did.

    Pipespotting

If you were in Pittsburgh, that was probably me.
  17. hugodrax

Maigret, The Series and The Books.

Gambon was a delightful Maigret. I have many of the novels, as well.
  18. hugodrax

    Anyone else like Longchamp pipes?

    I love mine.

    Bad Experience With Smoking Pipes

Terrible tone. When you mix sneering condescension with a complete misunderstanding of the law, nobody really wins.

    Bad Experience With Smoking Pipes

You know, both buyer and seller in this instance acted with a lot of class. We could probably do that, too.
