    Fun to Track an Order

Perhaps we can agree that "Surepost" is the bane of us all ordering off the Internet. You can see a package jet across the continent in a few days only to have it languish at the local post office (less than a mile) away for a week.

Show Us Your Top 10 Smokers

It would be much easier to show a top 10 list of my least favorite pipes, but here are the pipes I have out and in service right now. Next month I'll have a new top 10. Left column down: 1. Twin Bore Bite Proof 2. LHS Filter King 3. Ehrlich 4. Kaywoodie Filter Plus (Has a Nylon brush...

To Pass, or Not to Pass.. A Nicotine Test

When an insurance company makes the assumption that pipe smokers are going to cost them an extra hundred bucks a month, I'd say they are the one with the ethics problem. Judging from the number of motorcycle riders in the rehab center where I work, I think motor cycle riders should pay a hundred...

What Books Are You Reading? (2018)

Probably only of interest if you are somehow involved in Anglican choral singing, but Byrd by Kerry McCarthy is interesting reading for me. William Byrd was a complex man living in complex times. That he managed to compose such wonderful music without losing his head is something we should all...

Show Off Your Dr. Grabow Pipes Here!

I've got a box of pipes waiting their turn for refurb. I dug out three just now. A Starfire, a Westbrook and on the bottom, a Viscount. I've also got an Adventurer that's the same shape. They are all in pretty good condition. It's kind of chilly out there in the shop right now or I'd be out...

Show Off Your Dr. Grabow Pipes Here!

Well Dave, here are some that have joined my collection these past couple of months. The one at the top may look familiar. :D It's getting along fine with its poorer cousins.

A Curiosity Antique Pipe - Opinion on Value

If it's as old as that, it's a historic artifact and worth further research. I think we are sometimes way too quick to just toss stuff out as scrap. There was a lot going on in the Ottoman Empire in the early 1800's. How does pipe making/smoking fit into that history on cultural artistic and...

    Opinions

Mahew, you probably already know that quickest way get your son started smoking is to try and dissuade him from it =) Maybe he's past that stage already. I took an active role in guiding my sons into pipe smoking after informing them of the responsibilities and risks involved. They were in their...

    Somewhat Sad and Aggravating Day

The thing that bothers me the most about the whole thing is that the thieves planned this. It wasn't like a shopper who saw something shiny and decided on the spur of the moment to lift it. They were organized. That makes me think they will keep doing things like this until they get caught. I...

    Somewhat Sad and Aggravating Day

There's a local antique shop where I buy most of my estate pipes. The lady who runs the shop has always been very kind to me, gives me great prices and lets me know when something comes in I might be interested in buying. So she tells me there is a nice WDC meerschaum pipe in its original case...

    Pipe Holder in Vehicle?

Three years later there was this solution. Maybe one like this can be made from a cell phone holder and a clothespin.

    The Costs Of Tobacco Use

"In a word, why don’t you go off somewhere and die, and not be always trying to seduce people into becoming as ornery and unlovable as you are yourselves, by your villainous ‘moral statistics’?" -Mark Twain (after being shown the facts about how harmful smoking is.)

    'Seconds' Questions

I have a Twin Bore "Bite Proof" that has all the Comoy stampings on it except the Comoy name. It's shape number 531, has the "Made in London" in a circle with "England" underneath that. A very nice pipe.

Need Info On A William Demuth Pipe

Nice pipe. The stamping is in a style that seems common on WDC pipes I've seen from the 1920's.

    Help with dating a pipe...

I'm seeing ads come up in my google search in 1948/1949 Popular Science and Life magazines showing Rogers tobacco and pipe pouches. The "Combination Model" pouch went for $10.00. The ad says you can order a Rogers Rarity pipe to go with it for an extra five bucks.

    Bjarne Nielsen Handmade

I have one that is stamped Handmade in Denmark if that qualifies. It's a fine pipe in my humble estimation.

In Praise of an Outmoded Pipe, Kaywoodie

Absolutely! That's where I come from, being a mid-century kind of guy, living in a mid-century ranch style house smoking my mid-century American pipes.
