***What Are You Smoking, January 2021?***

Mac Baren’s Stockton in a Dr Bob Kiess rusticated hawk bill. If you’re looking for a Hawk bill I HIGHLY recommend Dr Bob. Guy is the leader in the shape. Also a really good guy that’s a blast to hand out with at a pipe show.

    Pipe Lighter Recommendations

At Amazon you can get some DJeep lighters in a pack of 8 for $14. I"m admittedly a bit of a snob when it comes to lighters. I always use an old boy of some sorts. I have an IM Corona and a Peterson and my daily now is a Kiribi. As long as you're not in a strong breeze or big wind they light...

    Using Cigars As Pipe Tobacco

I've never done it, but I have heard of some guys putting the nub of a cigar into their pipe bowl to finish it. I would say go to blends like GL Pease's "Key Largo" that are pipe blends that have cigar leaf blended into them instead.

    Stem Materials

I really like Bakelite because of the unique colors it can come in. Typically most carvers use black ebonite/vulcanite stems on their pipes. They're the most comfortable when clenching if you ask most long time pipe smokers. I have an Old Dominion cob that has a wooden dowel as a stem. I...

Drying, Packing, and Cadence Technique Question

I would say starting out probably best to stick to ribbon cuts and try out different packing methods. I agree in the beginning it's better to pack a bit looser so there's more air flow and it's easier to keep lit. A major thing to remember is that the goal isn't to get massive plumes of smoke...

    Rabbit Air Minus A2 Update

Glad to hear those work really well. I'm going to try and get into my forever home this year and with that am looking to set up a man cave area where I can smoke my pipes and watch movies and what not.

My hope is the we're able to get back to pipe shows. Miss hanging out with everyone and enjoying good tobacco in good pipes.

    Recent TAD Pick-Ups

I have five tins of Mac Baren's Navy Plug Cut on the way with two tins of Peterson Flake. Interested to see if the plug cut is any different with MacB's Navy.

    Returning to the Pipes

Welcome back! The pipe world is great not only because of the relaxation having a bowl brings, but the people in the hobby are really good too. If we ever get back to having pipe shows I'm always at the West Coast Pipe Show and I'm hoarding most of my McClelland blends to share at the show.

Mystery Man Tobacco Insider for Last Radio Show of 2020

Ah Mike, the Grinch who stole Christmas Cheer lol. Good to hear Mike again. That man has forgotten more about pipe tobacco than I'll ever learn in my life. Hope the holiday season has been good to Mike, Mary, you Brian, Kevin, and all the forum members. May the new year bring even more sweet smokes.

    Micallef Cigars

Anyone else into the Micallef brand? A buddy of mine who lives in Texas got me on them. Gave me a Migdalia and it was really good. Been working my way through the rest of their portfolio. Really good group of people on the ambassadors page. Brand really supports the B&Ms so that's basically...
