What English blends do you like and why?

jcsoldit, you and I share a similar pipe-smoking history and I too found that I enjoy richer, fuller-bodied blends when I returned to the pipe than I did 20 years ago when I was first starting out. There are some very experienced members on this site that I'm sure can give you excellent advice...

    I . . . must . . . resist . . . the . . . temptation . . . of . . . PAD . . . It's no use. Great looking pipes guys.

    Latakia Snob, Needs Advice

If I may humbly weigh in on this topic, I can say that my 3 favorite blends containing Latakia are Frog Morton, SG's Perfection (the title suits it perfectly!!) and SG's Chocolate Flake. While the 2 SG blends have the added flavoring agent, I cannot taste it in either blend (vanilla in...

    What I Feared is Happening...

I fear that the "slippery slope" has finally unveiled itself. Alas we are becoming a nanny state, like much of Europe. It just took us longer. Didn't we just a couple hundred years ago fight a war for independence to rid ourselves of excessive government meddling?

What got you started on pipes?

I was a newly married young businessman, having just graduated college, and I wanted to ween myself away from the cigarettes I would occasionally smoke while galavanting about late at night during my college years. I, too, had older male figures in my family who I looked up to who also smoked...

    English Blend Advice

Shotokun, I'll have to give Penzance a try. Seems to have a loyal following. JC, you're right on about Peterson's Irish Flake, I love it and have a few tins aging as we speak. Also, that Northwoods sounds good and the price is great too.

    English Blend Advice

Just as an update I wanted to let you guys know that Frog Morton is now one of my favorite blends of all time. Who would'a guessed? Squadron Leader I didn't fancy but I traded with a guy who loves it. Perfection is wonderful and so is SG's Chocolate Flake, which is, I think, a little heavier...

    Care of an Estate Meerschaum

One other question if I may. How does one apply the beeswax? Do I rub it on using my fingers while smoking the pipe? Afterwards? Sorry to sound like such a dolt but I've never had a meer so I have no experience in the care/handling of it.

    My first Savinelli

Very nice pipe. Alas I have but one Savinelli and it is a fine smoker.

    Care of an Estate Meerschaum

Thanks again for your learned responses. Right now I'm just taking my time and trying to determine the best course of action. Your replies have certainly helped. I'm going to purchase some beeswax in the next couple of days so I can make sure to start caring for the meer properly on a going...

    Care of an Estate Meerschaum

Thanks guys. You may be right. I guess I could make up a really wild story about how the "ashtray bruise" got there. Really create my own character about the pipe.

    More Waxman Baseball Hijinks...

I love it when someone is able to put someone else in his/her place with class and dignity. It just makes me smile.
