Hello all name is Gerald want to get into pipes

Welcome aboard Gerald. Cobguy has some good advice. Savinelli's are excellent briar pipes for around $100. A few corncob pipes will be great for staring out and sampling different blends. I would start with samples of English, aromatics, Virginias, burleys, etc. That will quickly determine...

Reconditioning an Old Pipe. Before/After (pics)

Thanks everyone. This was a fun project. It's nice when they turn out better than expected. I love working on the briar part of restorations. Stems? Not so much. George, thanks. That means a lot coming from the master. I may have put the stem in upside for the pics, but I'll give it a heat and...

Reconditioning an Old Pipe. Before/After (pics)

Here is an ongoing project I just finished up. It's been a while since I've been able to work on any of my own pipes. These LHS Sterncrest push stems are great old burners. The before pictures show that the previous owner thought so too. Upon arrival: Charred, beaten, and severely out of round...

    Carnauba versus Paragon wax.

I'm no expert but from my own experience, carnauba is far superior. Carnauba has a better shine and is much more durable. Paragon is nice to use for rustic and blasted finishes.

How to Ream Pipe with Thick Cake

For concrete hard cake, plug the shank and fill the bowl chamber with alcohol for a few hours. It will soften the cake. Good luck.

Show Off Your LHS Pipes Here

Nice score tuold. Nice work too. I've found the old red dots to be my favorite LHS smokers next to my push stem Sterncrest's. The hypodermic needle type stingers in these have a perfect open draw.
