FDA Premium Cigar Comment Period Officially Begins

The FDA is accepting comments regarding it's role in defining and making exemption for premium cigars in the proposal to further regulate tobacco products. I believe it is in our best interest to encourage and submit information as it pertains to our passion. Please comment, there is a link on...

Check Your 2012 GL Pease Navigator

Recently cracked a tin from 2013 and indulged for the first time, quite tasty stuff. Sweet and creamy virginia's with a smokey spicy backdrop and some nutiness that progresses down the bowl. Seems to me that there is a decent proportion of reds in it, and I do taste rum, never interferes.

    GL Pease Dark Stoved

That makes complete sense and I couldn't agree more. I saw on a previous thread that you are stocked up, kudos. My cellar, meager in comparison, is still highly prized. Thank you

    GL Pease Dark Stoved

I am a supporter of American blenders, producers, etc...I am also very sad to see a great American tobacco company close it's doors(much respect). I'm aware of other great blenders across the pond, however, in my mind this unfortunate event leaves only two "houses" state side. It would be...

    Blends That Never Fail

Capstan Blue, Dunhill line, P.S Virginia, Comoys Virginia, Gl Pease, these all tend to burn easily and are readily available.

    Thoughts on Beacon Extra

I get that ashy taste from time to time, but never really with Virginia's. Typically burleys will do that, especially, when I smoke a little to vigously. I recommend ashing a little to prevent that and pull back on the puff-o-meter

    Why I Love Gawith

I work as a tobacconist and all I can say is that cigar plume(oils) is like a fine powder that rubs of fairly easily. And crystallized sugar looks like a small scale dimished light show. +1 oldgeezer Looks tasty enough though...love me some tobacco nudes

    Bottom one quarter of tobacco

I agree with the previously stated comments, however, good Virgina tobacco can taste wonderful in that last quarter. Dry the tobacco out well, smoke easy, stir and relight. Sometimes it smokes well, sometimes it's more work than its worth. It's all about the experience. Happy Smoking!

    Pipe tobacco bloom?

That is bloom but as others have stated a rather dense one. Imo SG FVF seems to have a heavy sugary casing compared to most other Virginia flakes. When comparing it to other VAs they seem to have a light bloom whereas FVF usually has a couple of dense patchy spots. Looks like an overly applied...

I'm Drinking Too Much And Driving My Wife Crazy

My wife is a smoking Nazi! She complains about ever wiff she gets. She understands that when I reward her with a house I will get an indoor smoking area....until then every day outside. Needless to say I've invested in the warmest clothing and heating devices cause when I need to smoke, I smoke...

    Info on this stanwell

In my experience Stanwell makes very good pipes. As long as your happy with the pipe and it smokes well then you can't beat it. That all depends on that particular pipe and only time will tell. But yes that is a good deal. Smoke a cigar....savor your pipe.

    Dunhill Flake Round Tin

I can't attest to the taste of the newer tins. I generally age new stuff at least a couple of years before opening. Since I have an open tin of aged Dunhill Flake no need, but I think Jaxs6 hit it on the nail. Too many changes going on lately...

    Dunhill Flake Round Tin

As the tittle suggests I received a recent order of Dunhill Flake and it was in round tins. When did they start doing this? Has it been that long?

    Hemp wicks

I really like my hemp wick. I posted on a similar thread, but to me the taste of the wick is cleaner and softer than anything less a match. When properly used the line is much easier to use than a unwielding flame and especially useful for deep bowl relights. I like Virginia pipe tobacco and...

Vauen Misdrilled Shank Or Am I Just Fussy?

I have a Rattrays old gowrie pipe that is similar. I don't believe it's misdrilled. Its my understanding that it's high so the filter "well" can collect excess moisture and it doesn't interfere with the airflow. I notice when I clean my pipe moisture tends to collect in the filter area. Just my...
