My pair of pipes, a Peterson Aran and Savinelli Antique Shell

I'm hanging out, smoking a pipe and brewing some beer, so I figured I'd take the time to post some pics of my two pipes. One is a Peterson Aran 01 I got a few weeks ago. It is a beauty, and has a large bowl that holds about an hour and a half worth of tobacco. It smokes pretty well, but has a...

    New Savinelli, Oxidized Stem

I'll tell you what, toothpaste definitely did the trick in the interim. It was all I had, being in a hotel away from home, and wanting to smoke my pipe sooner rather than later. After all, I got it to smoke, not to admire the star on the stem. I probably would have been a little more concerned...

    New Savinelli, Oxidized Stem

I just left on a short trip and forgot my pipe and tobacco at home, so I poked my head into a local tobacconist to see what they had. The original plan was to get a basket pipe that I could bang up or lose and not feel bad about it. But then I started looking at their selection of more modestly...

    Bowls per day average

0.5 And by that I mean both that I occasionally smoke half a bowl one day, and then revisit it the next, and also that I smoke an average of 0.5 (some none, some 0.5 and some a full bowl). There have been a couple of brew days when I smoked two bowls, but that's so rare as to be almost never.

    Adirondack Northway

My first attempt at any sort of review and breakdown of a tobacco... I guess I should have heeded the warning in the description on cupojoes.com describing it as "minty cool and delightfully refreshing." Not expecting quite that minty of a punch, I got it to try it out. I'm still struggling to...

Expeditus, The Patron Saint of Procrastinators Just Kicked Me In The Butt

Oh, it certainly does. It sounds like your relaxing day turned into a day full of necessary activity. And on the topic of procrastination, I just came across one of my favorite quotes today "If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done."

Expeditus, The Patron Saint of Procrastinators Just Kicked Me In The Butt

I have a chronic case of the procrastination bug. Pipe smoking is a great way to avoid the work I should be doing. But Expeditus comes calling more often than not in the form of "LT Todd your presence is requested in the executive officer's stateroom" over the general announcing system here...

What Do You Do Whilst Smoking?

Your dog walks around in the sky? Awesome :P just messing My pipe is my return to sanity time. Being on a Navy ship where smoking most anywhere but the smoke pit is frowned upon, I usually just stare out at the water or if it is night up at the stars and contemplate the vast nothingness of it...

What beers are you drinking with your pipe?

So true. All so delicious. I'm not a fan of trying to do hops and tobacco. It clashes to me, with both being very spicy sometimes bitter in different ways. Because of that, my choices are good malty ambers, nut browns or stouts. It's too bad the beer selection here in Bahrain is so limited...

    Caught the addiction

Thanks for the warm welcome, and while the advice may be unsolicited, it is not unwelcome. Learning through shared experience is much less painful than learning through own experience. Luckily I learned this early on. My practice lately has been to run a pipe cleaner through from the mouthpiece...

Well, I'm Gutted - Ashamed To Call Myself An Aussie ....

IN FLANDERS FIELDS In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved...

    Caught the addiction

So I have now caught the pipe bug. I went from a pipe a day smoker for the last several weeks to now having smoked four bowls in twenty four hours. Of course it was in part a trial of the three pipe tobaccos currently in my inventory, as well as a trial of my two pipes. I also ordered two cobs...

you can never have too much whiskey

My 21st birthday I lost my ID, so I couldn't even enjoy a drink at dinner. Needless to say it was because of the wild time I had the night before starting at midnight sharp. 21 drinks for 21 is a bad idea. If the tally on my arm was right I missed by 1 drink...

    Why I smoke

Thank you all for the warm welcome, and thank you most of all for the support. We couldn't do what we do without all of the support. Dylan, I haven't found any unique tobacconist here that does much in terms of pipe tobacco. Most deal almost exclusively in Cuban cigars, and have an odd, small...

    Why I smoke

Greetings, As you can see, I am brand new to the site. Wanted to introduce myself thoroughly. As the name might entail, I am a sailor, an officer in the Navy, currently in Bahrain (a little island in the Persian Gulf). I'm also fairly new to pipe smoking. Last year I visited my favorite...

    Young Smokers: Post your reactions

I'm not just young(ish), I'm in the Navy, so the only place I've really smoked is on the fantail of my ship. It's actually kind of funny how many people have noticed and mentioned that they smoke as well. Just today I got a bowl full of a home blend. Then there are a few that are shocked that I...
