Are You More a "Pipe Guy" or A "Tobacco Guy"?

I love both equally. The esthetics, artistic skill and hand work identify my core values. Blending prowess and expertise equally excite my palate. The amount of knowledge and tradition in both beyond any living one man's abilities. Sure people can make a pipe and grow tobacco, but that's not...

    Morta Pipes

Recently purchased my first morta and it smokes well but I feel it would smoke better with a cake buildup. Most people advise against this but anyone here build up cake on morta?

    Open Tins

I have many many mason jars because of my inability to smoke a tin quickly. It takes me several years to smoke a tin unless it captivates me. This and me wanting to try new blends will be my downfall.

    I just Gotta Cut Back!

Definitely can't say smoking is beneficial for you but I could almost guarantee that it isn't the true culprit here. Really though you could be smoking pounds a day so I dunno. Best of luck

Would McClelland Sell Their Recipes and Methods?

I honestly miss them for a variety of reasons but I think importantly is the fact that it was from a "major" American blending house. Manufacturing unique quality tobaccos for everyone to enjoy. A counterpoint to C&D.

Do You Beg, Borrow, Or Steal Dunhills?

Heck the people at the tobacconist shop where I bought my only Dunhill didn't even know what the inner tube was. Two of them where my age or younger but even the older gentleman didn't even know. The youngest kid who made the sell even remarked he never thought one would sell. Justified given...

    Me and Virginia Tobacco

I'll add my standards here. Don't dry Virginia's out, unless they really need it. IMO dry Virginia's are harsh and they lose their subtleties, and burn hotter. MacB no.1 should be perfect to smoke without drying. There are exceptions. Especially in a meer though, dont dry tobacco out...I really...

    WTB But Where?

I would just take a little time and look through the tobacco review section here, watch tobacco reviews on youtube, look at your online vendor of choices' tobacco descriptions, and most importantly educate yourself on the basic types of tobacco you smoke and the common flavors you get from them...

    Bacca Left in Bowl

Your process stirs up many questions. Sounds like you might be tamping too hard. The tobacco should be relit and smoked unless it is no longer enjoyable. Tamp softer and more frequently to ensure burning of the remaining tobacco.

Can You Explain the Magic 7 Minute Mark?

Yeah some blends give off instant flavor and others take a while to develop. Just to point fingers it probably boils down to quality of leaf and proper lighting...possibly even the amount of PG.

    Challenge to New Pipe Smokers

A few comments correlated with my own tastes. This post was just intended to see if others perceived the tastes like myself. Equally to promote experimentation among newer pipe smokers to encourage refining their palates. Nothing crazy. Heck I can even taste the wood burning from matches and the...

    Challenge to New Pipe Smokers

Happy to see inputs. Personally I taste the differences between matches and zippos the most. I can taste butane as well, especially if I have to relight towards the bottom of the bowl. I love zippos for their history but I can't stand the taste it puts off. It's not to say that I feel using a...
