Question about "Make your own Pipe Project" "Room"

No, this area is for making pipes, not just the project/contest. You're in the right "room" - and welcome by the way. :puffy:

    Undressing a "Dress" Pipe

Thanks, gents. I don't know if that piece of briar got unlucky and I got lucky or what. I really was afraid what I might find under that black coat!

    Blockage in Stem...

Orley that's an intriguing idea with several possible uses! Thanks for sharing it.

    Undressing a "Dress" Pipe

A few days ago I received a Stanwell Black Diamond in the mail, gifted to me from a friend on Instagram. The easy clean up I expected turned into a full blown project, with me "undressing" the pipe and restaining it. Here's the rest of the story if you're interested...

    Tools to Get Started

Are there other Gregs? LOL Yessir, it's me! :puffy: Gee, I was warning folks about being carful with the coping saw and you guys break out the industrial sanders! May be a little more than most have or are comfortable with but go for it if you have it and are able to use it!! I just posted the...

    Tools to Get Started

I thought a quick run down on the few tools I'm using for this project would be helpful. Everything here is available at Home Depot except the vulcrylic file, which came from Amazon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4Aw4djljoo

That's a very interesting shape emerging there! I can't wait to see it finished. Kudos on your progress.

    Tips And Tricks: Fills

There are some interesting, artistic thoughts here IMHO. If you're working with briar that has no metal, delrin or ther "foreign" materials in/on it, you could use polymer clay and then bake it per the manufacturers direction to make an interesting design or possibly even matched fill. There...

Old Meerschaum Bowl Re-Stemmed and Restored

Thank you gents for the kind words about both my work and word-smithing. The old meer did, indeed, come out rather well IMHO. I just love seeing these old pipes reborn to new life again.

    Is this plateau briar salvageable?

That's a good thought line. It sounds like you've answe your own question now!

    Tips And Tricks: Fills

I've yet to figure a way to not have the fills turn out darker no matter what glue, putty, etcetera I've tried. The best fills are with super glue and briar dust IMHO and then try to camouflage them in the finishing, as Al did.

    Is this plateau briar salvageable?

Personally I thonk I'd try to remove the cracked portion and work from there. If it goes deeper, or not, you can alter your plans when you see the condition under there. If you split it first there's no going back. Just a though to ponder. :puffpipe:

A noble decision on your part my friend! And an excellent example of gentlemanly sportsmanship.

    Christmas Cheer 2013

Yesterday I tried a bowl of CC 2013 in a Savinelli 316 KS: a Dublin shape with a conical bowl. I almost immediately noticed a difference in the flavor profile in this pipe; there was a fairly pronounced bread/dough taste to the smoke which is not picked up on in the billiard. The bowl...

    Prize Pack & Deadline

I'm Still waiting to hear on rules and such from P&C. But we are going to go on with our forum project independent of the contest. I hope to get a little video done later today and post it. :puffpipe:

One that I am working on.

Came out really nice IMHO. It's esp nice for only your third attempt at briar.

    Christmas Cheer 2013

Thanks for the kind words, gents. This is my second vintage of CC, the other being 2011. If memory serves me, I preferred the 2011 over the 2013. I usually have coffee or water with my smokes, sometimes my "vice drink" A&W LOL. I'll try it with water instead of coffee this next bowl. I also...

    Another Loose Stem Fix

    Here's another idea http://rebornpipes.com/2013/08/22/another-loose-stem-fix/

    Small 10 minute smoke pipe

I like a MM Legend. It'll give you the option of a couple of short smokes during the day or one longer one; I usually get 40 minutes out of a bowl. Nice size, low cost and versatile IMHO.
