Help a Fella Out with Burley

I think all the C&D Runowski Burleys are worth a smoke. You tried my #1 favorite Solani but how about #2 Wessex? Essentially other than those two IMO C&D, Peretti and Mac Baren really make the better Burleys.

    MIght Be Time to Quit?

That's a darn shame. I cannot speak to the Covid effects but every year during the Spring and Fall when the allergens hit my palate become less sensitive to a notable degree. And yes, neither the pipe nor cigars are as flavorful. Something to deal with. But like others suggested just give your...

    What kind of tobacco?

Cigar smoker here too. My suggestion is medium to heavier English, Burleys and Cigar-leaf blends. There are plenty of choices out there. But on the cigar ones, Sailor Jack and Churchill from Wilke I think will tickle your cigar fancy as well as John Patton's Storm Front, C&D Billy Budd just to...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2023?***

Late evening smoke featuring a mix of OJK and little of PS Cube Cut to soften the flavor a bit, not feeling the old guy’s unbridled crustiness tonight. In a no-name Italian briar. One of the very first briars that I purchased so many years ago. This thing belongs in a museum, but hey, it still...

    Rattray

Used to be you could grab the better Rattray's at any time with no problem, (HOTW, Old Gowrie, Red Rapparee). Nowadays there is a lingering supply issue. So, when they appear I generally power-buy them. Not sure what happened. It could be that the Asian market has come on stronger in the last...

How Long Do Aros Keep Their Taste?

Personally, I purchased aromatics in small quantities just so they won't lose their flavoring. I do not and would not cellar them, but that is me.

Solani ABF Wessex Burley Slice Hal O The Wynd PS LNF Old Toby Scottish Mixture PS EOS SPC Plum Pudding and yes, Loch Lomond is a goodie I agree.

    Smoking Larger Pipes

That looks like to me a very nice Burley pipe. It has a considerably deep and wide bowl. Maybe a Latakia blend as well. My guess, like others, is the packing technique. If there is no free air/room on the bottom it will be difficult to light and smoke

Emerson Southern Forged - What a delightful experience

I've had a couple of bowls; I do like it. Not quite ready to give the blow by blow but it is one nice heady blend.

Emerson Southern Forged - What a delightful experience

ESF has a fairly generous assortment covering all genres except aromatics

Emerson Southern Forged - What a delightful experience

Email Jim direct he will send it. I've attached the one from March, but I believe its been updated.

    Need some help, novice

I would recommend Stokkebye's Natural Dutch Cavendish to any new piper. It has a managed sweetness due to heavier casing which is their style of production and plenty of native tobacco flavors. Also, a milder Burley such Prince Albert, Carter Hall and a bouquet one like Ken Byron Venture's...

Emerson Southern Forged - What a delightful experience

As a first-time customer, I felt compelled to relate everyone my latest acquisition from Emerson Southern Forged. I had actually only ordered three various pressed non-aromatic mixtures from Mr. Jim Steffey, the proprietor. Let me just say I was delighted by my ordering experience as Jim clearly...

    Ordered Some Aromatics

I smoke all genres with a penchant for Latakia blends. Yet I do enjoy my aromatics and have found that the Country Squire, Boswell's, and Sutliff tend to present consistent tasty products on the whole. There are a few C&D's, Stokkebye's, Mac Baren's, that come to mind as well, in addition to a...

Which type of pipe reamer should i be using

The one pictured is exactly what I used myself, works just fine. You can buy more expensive ones if you are heavily into restoration work, but for occasional personal use, I think the cheapo will do.

Help a Fella Out with Burley

Of course, Solani and Wessex are my number 1 & 2. But any of the Bob Runowski Burley blends from C&D are solid IMO. Peretti Burley's, in general, are quite impressive too. Mac Baren Golden Extra and Symphony just to name a couple others.

I Finally Tried Some Lane 1Q.

I had smoked 1Q a long time ago and was left feeling underwhelmed. But, by a moment of gullible deception, I actually bought some from the Tinder Box badged under a different moniker, "Wilshire" based upon the jar note. Smoking it, 1Q did seem more enlivening I must admit. Maybe they changed...

    Favorite “Plain” Tobacco

When I think "plain" I think Cavendish in general, not so remarkable on flavor or nuancing. I guess any Dutch style that is heavily cased such as Stokkebye's Natual Dutch or any lightly top coated Cavendish like a Sutliff made Super Value Vanilla, Whiskey or Cherry.

    Rich’s in Portland, Oregon

Heading to Portland on Sunday. I know the place but never frequented. I stay in Clackamas so I generally hit Cascade Cigar and Tobacco and would like to check out 82nd Avenue's store.

The many ways we de-smoke ourselves

At this point in life, I don't really care. I chose to live my life as I see fit not based upon how others define it. If I smell like tobacco, then that is me. You can accept that or not, but it's not going change what I enjoy for myself. If others can't respect that then that's a reflection on...
