    Rich’s in Portland, Oregon

Funny you mention “doing well”. Bill, the manager and longtime house blender who is every bit the Codger pipe smoker, remarked that even he wasn’t sure how much longer they’d be in business. Get in there and see Bill sometime if you’re able before it’s too late.

    Rich’s in Portland, Oregon

I met Bill there. Bill has been blending tobacco by hand for over 20 years. He is the very definition of a Codger and I loved every minute of talking with him. He kindly helped me pick out a basket pipe from their GIANT collection of basket pipes. I believe their House Blend is “Bill’s Blend”...

Yes, NW. It was much more fancy than SW location but SW location was way more pipe-centric. Lots of great pipes there.

Excellent point. I did however buy a tin of Best Brown for $21 at location 1. Location 2 is where the pricey tins were.

82nd got their license revoked. They can’t sell baccy for like a month or something. I called. They told me.

They had some Germains, Wessex, G&H, and Balkan Sobranie tins but they’re also aware of a thing called flipping so they priced accordingly which I kind of love. $45 for a tin of Germains such and such blend. Same for Balkan S. It was for sure the largest pipe selection I’ve ever seen in real...

Went to Rich’s. Great, high end spot especially compared to the offerings in Nashville. Location 1 had a tin of Samuel Gawith Best Brown flake just sitting there so of course I bought it. Off to location #2. I feel a minor case of PAD coming on.

Oldschool Witch. Now that’s a fun blend name. Well done!

Is this the only picture ever taken of a pipe sitting on a brush?

That first bowl back after a break is always so good.

I’m gonna buy a clay pipe. I’m curious; in what way is the Old Dominion preferable to the Old German?

It It so obviously makes sense. It would have been absurd to NOT buy a pipe, really.

How to cellar this tub of Carter Hall?

Ya know how you can leave some McDonalds food out at room temperature for years and it won’t rot and bugs won’t eat it?

Maybe. Not sure. My thought was “Perique”. I will say this “blend” burns well. If I had C&D Exclusive, I would have used that for the Perique. Hell, if straight Perique existed at the moment in retailers, I’d buy some and use that.

I think next time I’ll add some Simply Red or some My Red Fox for depth. It’s very 1D. Reminds me a touch of current Lizzy Mix which I do not care for.

Yes. It’s black and looks like the stuff Ernie puts in some of his blends but I’m a hella novice and I may well be WAY off. It looks like larger black flakes (think fish food) of baccy.

What Music Are You Listening To - May, 2023

Latest Queens. Of The Stone Age single, “Emotion Sickness”.

Pretty good. Wish I had my Sutliff Red VA handy because that would have been good here too. I combined 1 gram each of all 3 elements. It’s honestly a little bitey but I’ve smoked worse.

    Mold Expansion in the Cellar?

I made a thread here about “moldy” 2022 Cringle Flake recently. Someone here suggested I contact Sutliff directly so I did. I took pics and sent em directly to the production manager’s inbox. He called back a couple hours later and told me the acidity in the tobacco reacted with the coating on...
