    Movies with Pipe Smoking Scenes

I've been watching Columbo on the Roku channel recently and that series was full of smoking. Besides Columbo's ever present cigars, there are also lots of other cigar smokers, cigarette smokers and pipe smokers in the series. Most episodes have at least one pipe sighting. In season 3, episode...

    Bought a Guitar

Electric guitars are a lot easier on the fingers and easier to play in general. When I got back into guitars as an adult I bought an electric. You'll build up some good calluses in due time though if you stick with it, and your finger and hand strength and dexterity will improve as well.

    Redemption Story

Invariably, whenever I get rid of something, a situation will eventually arise where I will kick myself for getting rid of it.

    Bought a Guitar

It's never too late to start. I started playing guitar when I was about 11, but I never put much effort into it. I then started playing the drums at 16 and was fortunate to have a really good drum teacher and to play all through high school. I also put in more effort with the drums, with...

Did I Screw up my New Savinelli?

Rubbing alcohol will definitely take off the stain. When I had this happen I was able to successfully touch up the stain with appropriate colored furniture markers and then apply Decatur Pipe Shield wax to restore the shine. The result was so good that you can't even tell that the accident happened.

    Is this Sav done?

You definitely would have been better off leaving a layer of cake in there. There's really no good reason to ream a chamber back down to the briar in my opinion, although I know some restorers like to do that. That said, you can always smoke it and hope for the best.

    A Letter from Customs

Here in Oregon they have already decriminalized heroin and offer free needles to addicts. Fentanyl is also everywhere now and we let it flow into our country through open borders. Fentanyl is a killer too, with even minute quantities leading to overdose. There was a case in Florida recently...

March Meerschaum Madness - Let the Madness Begin!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to getting it colored too.

    Pretty Versus Ugly Algerian Briar

Yep, Kaywoodie did the same with the White Briar.

    There's An Insect Shortage

Same thing here on the Oregon coast. There are so many bees pollinating the wild berries in my front yard in the spring and summer that you can hear them from the house.

March Meerschaum Madness - Let the Madness Begin!

First smoke in this estate meer, now with properly bent stem.

    There's An Insect Shortage

How are we supposed to eat zee bugs if there is an insect shortage? I guess they'd better ramp up production at the cricket farms.

***What Are You Smoking, March 2023?***

Back to the meerschaum today. Amphora Virginia Blend for my first smoke in this estate meer. The stem on this pipe was completely straight when I received it, and it looked really weird as a result. I had to put the bend back with some patience and hot water.

    Tennessee's Finest Devil's Fungus?

For sure. The actual brewing smells pretty good, but fermentation can produce some less desirable aromas.

    Pretty Versus Ugly Algerian Briar

For sure. Either rusticate them or wrap them in leather!

***What Are You Smoking, March 2023?***

Leather wrapped pipes were pretty common at various times in the past. The initial idea behind them was to make use of briar pipes that had fills or cosmetic issues that reduced their desirability. They smoke just like any other briar pipe. Many of us here own them, and I own several myself.

***What Are You Smoking, March 2023?***

Taking a break from the meers today with some Lane Hazelnut in my Emerald cob. The dogs needed extra play time since the weather was foul the last few days, so I reloaded the cob with Amphora English Blend.
