    Ken Byron Blends Great Virginias

Ken makes some nice blends, and I like his approach and packaging as well. Some of it can be hit or miss and it's often hard to stock up if you like something since so many of his blends are one time releases, but it is what it is. He also does some great things with Orientals, IMO, and his...

    My First Buzz

I think the key to avoiding this is to make sure you've got a meal in you before loading up high Nic blends or having 2-3 pipes in a row. I've been there...maybe once? But mostly I'm just careful to only smoke high Nic blends after eating a good meal. If you're able to figure out how to...

How Can People Taste Anything Without Retrohaling?

+1. This is exactly my experience.

Blends that Pair Well with Black Coffee

Everything pairs well with black coffee. Burley is great. Englishes as well. Both pair well with coffee and cream as well. Va and VaPers are great with black coffee, but I’ve found them difficult to taste if I have cream in my coffee.

Does the PIPE Make the Difference?

This right here. Does the pipe make THE difference? Not necessarily but it can make A difference. Other than the obvious difference of material, assuming the pipe is well drilled, the two ways I find my pipes make a certain tobacco smoke differently are the openness/tightness of the airway...

    RevLee

Hello and welcome from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am a Music and Worship director at a large Lutheran church down here. Our senior pastor is from the UP.

    Golden Sliced Secret Sauce

Those are some excellent blends to start with. All are very tasty, and most are pretty light on the Perique (I'd say Elizabethan Match is medium on the Perique).

Amateur Astronomy and the Pipe Smoker

When I lived in Southern AZ, I liked to observe at the Buenos Aries Wildlife Refuge on the Mexican border. It was the closest Bortle 2 spot to my house in NW Tucson. There is a massive border patrol presence down there, and I often had to drive through a check point to get home at 3:00 AM. The...

    FOMO - Frog, Esoterica &?

I have smoked a few Esoterica blends and a few McClelland's as well, even though I started smoking in earnest after McClelland closed their doors. My observation of the Esoterica blends? Esoterica makes some really nice blends, that's for sure, and they're not bad value at MSRP. At...

    Cringle Flake 2021

Well put. I disagree with the last point, but that's just a matter of taste. My absolute favorite smoke that used that perique was C and D's XX Flake. A top 5 blend for me. And a one time release like Cringle 2020 and 2021.

    Cringle Flake 2021

Great review! I’m still working through my first tin (Living in Ohio rather than Arizona has definitely put a damper on my winter smoking habits) and it’s a fantastic smoke. I think that even though the Virginias are mature it will only get better with age.

    Clove Pipe Tobacco

This is the way. Not to mention the fact that there is some fantastic leaf undergirding the clove flavoring.

    Seeking Exceptional Bourbons

Looks like I need to make a quick trip across the river to Newport to pick this up. I've liked everything from New Riff that I've tried, and living 10 minutes from the distillery doesn't hurt either!

Amateur Astronomy and the Pipe Smoker

Awesome! I'm jealous. We lived in Oro Valley, and loved the same. The night sky in the desert is stunning. It's just not the same in Ohio. I used to go up north of Oracle and down the Altar valley near Sasabe (depending on how far I wanted to drive) with an 18" telescope. That area down...

    Tobacco Bombed

Beautiful! Folks around here are pretty incredible. I myself have been the recipient of a couple of major bombs from forum folk. My advice: Stick around, become a lifer, and when the time is right, pay it forward to some new(er) unsuspecting schmuck.

    Aged Tobacco Gone Bad?

That looks great to me. If it's crystalline as it appears in the photos it can be a sign of very well aged tobacco.

Czech Tool vs. ... Well, More Handsome Alternatives

99 percent of my pipe tampering and my dottle stirring is accomplished with a very simple tool: an unpainted wooden golf tee. They’re cheap and effective.

    VaPer Advice Please

I'm just now weighing in on this thread, which is funny because most of my favorite smokes are VaPers (although I've also been much less active the past few months because of a new job etc.). Sixpence is indeed delicious! In fact, I haven't met a VaPer from GL Pease yet that I haven't liked...

    Music For The Masses

I've spent most of my career planning music and worship for liturgical Christian denominations (primarily Catholic and Lutheran), so in a way, quite a bit of what I've done with my professional life involves Music for Masses.

    G.L. Pease, Where to Start?

My favs: Fillmore (top 5 blend for me) Embarcadero Sixpence Cairo Union square I don’t smoke Latakia blends often, so I haven’t really explored Greg’s Englishes or Balkans but I have no doubt that they are excellent as well. Pease is one of the best out there.
