This question may already have been put to bed but I am having difficulty searching a definitive answer. I am new smoker starting to trial my first VaPer blends and have come across reviews about whether Orlik Golden Sliced has Perique, or has ever had Perique, in it. Is this debate resolved and if so does it contain Perique?

I start my trial tomorrow and have the following samples in my trial.

Anniversary Kake
Elizabethan Match
PS Luxury Flake
Orlik Golden Sliced
GLP Stonehenge

I detect faint hints of Perique and have tried hard to verify it was not just the power of suggestion. I still sense it, but it has to be the lowest amount of Perique of any VaPer I've had yet.

And the secret sauce is bergamot.

I always thought a small amount of perique. Also a tiny bit of white burley? And a topping of bergamot (a small orange-like citrus fruit from the Indian subcontinent that is also the flavor in Earl Grey tea). A number of Danish and German made Virginia flakes use Bergamot.
Out of curiosity, your user name has made me wonder if you're a fan of Raymond Chandler?

There is the smallest amount of Perique in Orlick Golden Sliced, probably just enough to keep it from being totally one dimensional and boring, but not enough to really detect.

Anniversary Kake is definitely full on VaPer and delicious, but I don't equate Orlick GS to being a VaPer at all, regardless of it containing any amount of Perique.

I agree with this. I figure the perique is one or two percent at the most. The topping also helps mute the perique.

I think I am going to try these in below order. I think this order is lowest Perique to highest. If not let me know.

OGS
PS Luxury
Anniversary Flake
Elizabethan Match

Stonehenge - I have it and will try it but a bit afraid of it. Lots of people tasting flowers, dryer sheets, scented soap, perfumes, etc from the Lakeland Essence. So this will also be my first Lakeland sample.

Don't let it scare you off. It is the mildest of anything Lakeland. Likely even more so since they've lessened the flavoring on all of them.

Stonehenge is wonderful, no real Lakeland at all (maybe a hint? but I don't notice it) The same goes for GH Best Brown #2, excellent leaf...maybe better than Stonehenge.

Orlik Golden Sliced is a puzzlement to me. I tried it after letting the tin sit for several years and found the topping so off putting that I gave the tin away after smoking a half a bowl. I refer to it as Orlik Golden Showers.
Is it possible you got a bad tin? I just tried my first VaPer this morning and it was OGS (new tin) and I enjoyed it. Sweet and very mild fruity tangy and no bite. I did not get much spicy pepper but a hint of something is there different from straight Virginia. Also I was able to smoke it faster without bite so it must have something cooling it down.

A bad tin is always a possibility. But the end to my story suggests otherwise. I sent the tin to a friend of jiminks, who loves OGS. The guy was thrilled with the tin and sent me a beautiful cased pocket knife from his collection as a thank you.

Sometimes a blend just hits you wrongly. I've tried a couple of other Orlik blends and cant stand their toppings either.
